    Simple answer, if it wasn't for NATO , Western Europe would be members of the Warsaw Pact. & the freedom that most people take for granted would not exist.
    Take it from one who was a member of it [ NATO } In the 70s 80s..
    & with what Putin is up to at the moment its a good job that it is still around ...
    The UN however is & has always been a ineffectual waste of both Time & money...

    As an American I'm ok with NATO (since we can easily control/influence it), the UN I'm not so fond of (for the very opposite reason). :wink:

    Joking aside. NATO is a war machine and is very good at it, the UN has a goal of peace and fails miserably at obtaining it. NATO has proven far more valuable in it's use while the UN has been figuring out that it's almost impossible to keep peace without firing a shot.

    Peace is much harder than war, so the UN will, and has, ended up looking completely useless. Sometimes the only way peace can come about is through the barrel of a gun...one bullet at a time. Violence is a necessary evil when it comes to humans.
