The names of the business are not important, as we have heard the many stories like this here before. It would be nice to know more facts but it does not take many conversations with workers around town to understand that what is being said is probably true. Telling the names just creates a liability for the forum and the member that says something. Keep it simple, forget the names, certainly when being put on the internet in writing. .

Better safe than sorry or putting up with the slander laws here against some large Filipino business.

DI falls under US law not Philippine law. The silly Philippine defamation laws do not apply to the forum itself. I don't see the posts here as intent to tarnish someone's image but more to put information out there to warn the general public of less than honorable hiring practices and to voice their opinion on the subject. However, members posting might want to take into consideration the location from where they are posting and what the repercussions of their words might be. While the forum might not fall under Philippine law, someone posting from the Philippines certainly would. If the OP or other members wants to mention the names of the businesses that will be on them. I would advise anyone thinking of calling a business out to tread carefully.

He hasn't accused any specific business of doing anything. Nobody has said any names so nobody should feel as if they are being targeted. If there is a business that reads the forum and objects, has a different opinion/view on the subject or feels that this information is not entirely correct they can chime in any time. As far as I know this is a completely fabricated and fictional story since no real life characters have been mentioned by name. Until names are named I will continue to consider it as such.

That is what I am trying to say, All the business I know of, and know people working at hire for a 5 or 6 month contract, for a specific amount of money, (usually aroung 175 to 200 pisos per day), and they get paid during that 5 or 6 month contract. No one I know has ever worked for 6 months with no pay, except maybe nurses, doctors, and school teachers during their last year of school.

I agree, I have never heard of this 6 month no pay probationary practice outside of the fields you have mentioned here, though I have heard of nurses working in hospitals for free even after graduation just so they could get a little bit of on the job training after their schooling was finished.

I have also heard of companies not paying social security/health insurance for the 6 month "training contract" for unskilled labor. This does not sound too uncommon for me since I worked factory jobs before in the US and this is common practice there (not giving health care for the first 60-180 days, depending on how crappy your the company was....they always paid the SS though). If I had my gf's sister/cousin/niece/family complaining about this I would be skeptical and I would verify that they were actually not getting paid before I took any action just to make sure they weren't trying to get me to dish out some cash on some completely manufactured sob story. If I was 100 percent sure that they were not being paid for their work I would plaster the business name all over the internet criticizing their crappy hiring practices....making d*mn well sure I was posting it from a US IP address.

sad story, but common here. sadly, it's the biggest companys owned by the richest people. clean places, cheap prices, smiling young stuff - we should think about carefully where we spend our money. it happened in history that company owners changed their policy after the enterprise balance went down. not easy, i know
