I am having a problem with a registration of a new motorcycle. I bought new Yamaha motorcycle from Motortrade yesterday and they gave me the new motorcycle for registration license plate and said I can drive with it for 7 days.. However, then they added after that I cannot drive nor do anything about it until I get the official registration in 2-3 months. They just told me to store the motorcycle at my house until I get that official license in 2-3 months. I find it hard to believe this to be the case. Is there anything I can do to be allowed to drive after the 7 days until the official license plates?

    Please help!

Welcome.jpg my Friend you have just joined the LTO total F.... Up club.
Your best bet is to go to the LTO and ask them, You maybe can obtain Temporary Plates but you will need paperwork from the LTO. It is all about Money and you need to have the correct Official/ Original Receipts which the Dealer will Hold and may be usually reluctant to part with. On this you really have to be guided by the LTO and the very best of Luck on that

I think it is the best thing to Do, They make up the rules so I would Hope they know what to do but it is a real Nightmare. One thing you can be sure of they may have excuses so if you get that shoulder shrug ask for the In-Charge. Sometimes working from the Top is good and other times Start with the Security man, they seem to know a heck of a lot more than the Clerical staff in my Opinion
Best of luck, maybe you could let us know how you get on.

On a personal Note :whistling: if you have time, could you try and find out which Months Plastic Drivers Licences are being released this/next week, there is normally a note on the Widows to say. Cheers

Is your Yamaha a fast bike? Doesn't have to be a 1000cc rocket....just faster than the bikes the police ride (usually a beat up 250cc or smaller).

If you can't outrun the police does your bike get good gas mileage? Keep the tank at least half full at all times and keep riding, the police don't have much fuel in their bikes so they should only be able to pursue for a short time.

Third option is to just stop before any checkpoints with the hundreds of other locals doing the exact same thing.

Any of the above should resolve your plate issue.

    When in Rome....

We had the same situation when buying a car from a main dealer in April ... but they informed us of this RIDICULOUS situation in advance and we cancelled the order. Instead we bought a one year old warranted car (privately but via the same main dealer) already registered and in use from day one (it was an exact copy, even in colour, of the one we had ordered new, so we were very lucky). Not only is this a major problem for new vehicle purchasers (with the vehicle depreciating as it sits on the drive) but is a huge problem for businesses selling the vehicles and should not be allowed to continue. There are solutions if only someone at the top is willing to make the orders.

I have purchased 2 bikes now.

Last April from GUD, got a copy of registration in June and had a plate made. As of a couple days ago they said come back end of the month for registration and plate... we will see.

This February from Du Ek Sam, received the registration the same day (a couple days ago that I went to GUD) and they said they were making a plate and it would be ready end of the month.

The few checkpoints I have been through, no one told me to stop so I didn't. Never been stopped or asked for papers aven when riding with a 'for registration' plate for months.

No recommendations but personally just not worrying about it worked for me.

You can ask the sales shop to give you for every 7 days a new Sale receipt pre printed ( copies with the new buying dates) for one or two months.
Officially you can drive a new unregistered vehicle for 7 days without LTO paper from buying date on.
    Problem solved.

Several years ago I had occasion to visit the Cebu Cirty impound lot (involutarily). Inside was about 50+ brand new motoircycles with the "for registration" plate on the back, with weeds growing up through them. LTO cannot supply plates, so they impound the motorcycle until they can. Owner pays per day, of course.

    This falls under ther slogan,

    "It's more fun!"
