    :eek:Hello all,

I am new to this site and hope to gather as much help and advice as possible for a trip my boyfriend and I plan to take around the end of March for 2 weeks..We want to get the most out of the trip as this is a once in a lifetime one for us. Dave (my man) has a daughter who will be volunteering and will be posted with the UCCP Church in Tanjay for 5 months and leaves for there in 2 weeks. We would love to come visit while she is there to share in some of her experience.

We are both over 45 and were thinking our best bet would be to stay in Dumaguete???? but really know so little about the Philippines and that area of it. So I am here relying on help from others on this board for advice on where we would be best to stay and at a reasonable rate as we are both working class here in Canada so not wealthy. Also what we should do while there so we don't regret missing anything we may never get the chance to do, see, try and so on.

Also wondering what is a must have to bring home with us..

So I guess I am in dire need *laugh*

    Thank you all in advance.

    Marion

Welcome to D.I. Marion. Dumaguete should suit your needs as Tanjay for 2 weeks may be a little boring. Im sure you will recieve a lot of advice from members here. You have snorkling/diving/trekking/waterfalls/lakes/picnics/island hopping/sightseeing old churches/monuments/markets etc. Maybe 2 weeks will be too short weeks. You can stay up to 3 weeks without a visa. Wish you luck on your upcoming holiday

    Thanks Biker Dave

    Awesome news BD,

I wish we could do 3 weeks but I only am allowed 2 weeks off per year...

Sounds like we will have a ton to do and I hope all safely!

What type of bike do you have?

What do you do there in Dumaguete?

    Marion

    Welcom Marion on this forum.
I think that Bikerdave is right saying that you will have ample time to see a lot of nice things around here in the only 2 weeks.
Yes, I know, you can't extend your stay with a week extra
From Tanjay you can easily visit Bais, Mabinay caves and the Twin Lakes.
But there are so many more options like Apo Island (snorkeling/diving), Siquijor, Casaroro falls (Valencia), Malatapay (Wednesday market), Dumaguete etc, etc..... and ....all the bars at the boulevard :D
    HAVE A NICE TRIP.
But I don't see the problem with "Also wondering what is a must have to bring home with us" since you can decide whenever you're here.

It is too early yet to say "Welcome to Dumaguete" but visitors are always welcome to the city which is quite small, so there is no problem knowing your way around when you get here.

    Hi Marion!

I would recommend you Harold mansion for a place to stay. It's inside Dumaguete. This place is very cheap and design for back packers. They have free internet connection wifi. They have also computer for guest without laptops. Free breakfast and all day coffee or tea. Three kilometers away from the airport and 5 minutes away from the sea port. Very close to all good restaurants in Dumaguete.

The owner is really really nice.

For eating: Best Pizza in Italia. You can expect good recommendation of food in Casablanca. Really good food here. Why not - Le challet - if you prefer to see the boulevard while having your dinner. Persian Pallete for Persian food. They have Shawarma stand outside and it's really good and the price is 30 pesos.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Enjoy!

Fell free to ask me if you have questions.

    Lai

    Thanks again everyone

    Lai,

Thanks for all that info. I will have to investigate the hotels.
    What others can anyone recommend?
Will we want to rent a car? Or what would be the best way of travel for tourists and safeness?

    Thanks
    Marion
