Noise Meter – Android Apps on Google Play Install on your phone to find out how loud your place really is. I would be interested in seeing the difference between Dumaguete and the surrounding towns. Here in Afghanistan I am measuring around 65db outside. This is with a huge generator humming away about 100 meters away. The office is around 60 db (we have 4 window unit air-cons running that battle all the heat the electronics produce). My bedroom measures around 10-15db. *Inside the bedroom. (Just touching the phone to take a screenshot bumped it up above 20db.): Spectrum view in bedroom: Office: Outside (graph view): Me whistling (spectrum view): FYI: The CDC did a study on how accurate these apps can be. They concluded that most are accurate to about +/- 2 db. (not bad really) However, some phones do have a built in gain booster. This will, obviously, make the measurments less accurate.
Back in the day I downloaded a dB app for my iPad, every time I had a safety guy pull some stuff about what they perceived as well as the fire alarm guys I would pull it out...the company did not have a dB meter or did the "inspectors"; never got a finding. It seems to be pretty accurate and saved me a ton of problems for like $1.99. Shawn
