Tired of the same old countries? You’ve seen Buckingham Palace of England, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the beautiful shrines of Tokyo…

You wish you could visit Phuket and enjoy their beaches but thanks to the great tsunami tragedy, that part of Thailand is still busy recovering and renovating. You’re set to claim your vacation leave but you’re wondering where to go…

If you don’t mind, I have a suggestion for you. Why don’t you give a certain country in the Southeast Asia a chance: would you like to travel to the Philippines?

Philippines made its mark in the world by being the only predominantly Catholic nation in Asia, the country where flowers and rosaries gave its government democracy – that’s the famous Edsa Revolution by the way, back in 1986 – and of course, there’s Ms. Imelda Marcos and all her shoes.

If you care to give my suggestion a fighting chance, here’s a little teaser on what you can expect when you travel to the Philippines.

No Language Barriers – Almost everyone in the Philippines are fluent in English so there’s no need to clutch an English-Tagalog dictionary to your chest while struggling to tell the driver that you want to go back to your hotel.

Language barrier is one of the greatest obstacles you meet during foreign travel and yet, if you decide to travel to the Philippines, there’d be no need at all to worry about getting your message across! And if you actually desire to learn the native language of the Philippines, it’s very easy as the words are pronounced as it is and the grammar is more or less based on the English structure so you need not give yourself a headache like you did when you tried to learn French.

Warm Hospitality – That’s right. Ask anyone who’s traveled to the Philippines and they’ll tell you that Filipinos are one of the warmest people you’d encounter in this part of the world. Filipinos are always smiling and they’re very happy whenever they see that a tourist has come to see their beloved country.

A Blend of the Old and New – When you travel to the Philippines, expect a blend of country pleasures and urban delights. You can fly to Boracay, Aklan and enjoy their world class beaches. When you’re back at Manila, the capital of the Philippines, you could try join the night scene and go clubbing in the hundreds of bars that can be found along the streets of Makati, Malate and Quezon City.
