The term (point of lay) is exactly that. A Chicken that is at the age of egg laying that are generally sold 1 to 2 weeks before there first expected laying of their 1st egg.
I am seeking a breed that is not the Native Chicken. Must at least fall into one of the top 10 egg laying breeds. If any member is aware where I could purchase 1 dozen (point of lay) birds..... please drop me some info. Best regards

Try Don Bosco Farms or Silliman farms. Each grow their own layers. Young layers start laying small eggs and the size of the egg becomes larger as they age.

The eggs you buy in the Public market are shipped from Dipolog and are several days old before they reach the market. Likewise the semi parked between Lantau and Tiki bar are several days old.

Don Bosco and Silliman farms early in the day run out of eggs due to the many restaurants that demand the freshest eggs.

King KZ across from DCCO has farm fresh eggs supplied by one of their family members. The sizes available at any given time depends on the age of the birds.

Eggs when they are old, the yolks break when put in the skillet.

have you had chickens before ??
50 is a lot, better not have them too close to the neighbours, the smell and the wildlife all that poo will attract. will take a lot of caring for, time wise, where ever you keep them you will need access to clean the place, wet crap on dry crap is hard to shift, keep the water off the ground, as they will crap in that too, food is another factor, pick a budget and stick to it , not all the birds will lay, so you gotta have them sorted, no point in feeding 50 birds if only 35 are laying, finally there is some disease/sickness/airborne gunk, that kills all the birds, if happened me twice. (also most of the neighbours also went the way of the DODO)..........I ASKED THE MOTHER WHAT KILLED UM got the shrug of the shoulders, happens lots of times, no locals bothered to ask why, went to LGU asked if it was possible to figure out why, I was laughed out the door

I have 4 farm hands that work for me for many years now, they do it all and are entirely trust worthy. My pen is 2 level, 15m by 8 and dry as a bone. If they die, you will be invited to play chicken football with me. As for cost, cost is an issue I have never been concerned with for decades. If I lost the 50 Chickens my Asawa would rob me maybe 2 days of peace. :cigar:

Begs the question: Did you buy a chicken first or an egg first?
