    The Buglasan Festival

Held on the first week of October, the Buglasan Festival is a showcase of talent, products and resources from each of the 20 municipalities and 5 cities that belong to the province of Negros Oriental. This is held in Dumaguete City’s Provincial Capitol grounds, now the Ninoy Aquino Memorial Park, and would usually run for a period of two weeks.

All participating sectors build their own booth, made of indigenous materials such as bamboo and nipa, in a designated area. A money prize is given to the most unique and creative – posing a challenge to all locals. These booths contain merchandise originating from that particular place, be it local crops, plants, food specialties, furniture, antiques, artwork or handicrafts.

Aside from the booths, there are other activities like rodeo competition, cultural shows, and street dancing competition. To conclude the festival, there is a grand display of fireworks that get the city folk out of their homes and into the streets.

Coined “the festival of all festivals”, the Buglasan is one of the biggest events of the year in this province. It is truly a unique way of portraying the rich and colorful heritage of the people – an exceptional experience for everybody.
