Mandaue City is the "little rich city" in the Philippines. The city has been an economic center during the Spanish regime and until now Mandaue City has continued to be an economic and industry center. The Mantawi Festival of Mandaue City shows the richness of the history and heritage of the city.

Mandaue City traces its history back to the time of Ferdinand Magellan, a Spanish explorer. When Ferdinand Magellan sighted the "Cove of Cebu" that is called Mandawe, it became the Philippines' host of first facility. The industrialization of the Philippines began in Mandaue when the Acapulco Trade was sustained in the place.

Mandaue City was named after a thick, clinging vine known locally as "mantawi", which was abundant in the area at that time. Mandaue, even before the Spaniards came, was called as the "merchants' paradise". Major economic points were connected in this place.

The so-called "Cove of Cebu" became a pueblo in the years 1580 to 1700. In 1899, it became known as the town of Mandaue. In June 21, 1969, the Republic Act 5519 granted Mandaue to become a chartered city. In 1991, Mandaue City became a highly urbanized city in the Philippines.

Mandaue City is a coastal plain of Cebu Province, Philippines. Mandaue City is strategically located at the heart of Cebu Province. The city is connected by major transport links, the old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, and the Cebu International Port.

Mandaue City is under the Region Seven in the Philippines or known also as Central Visayas. Mandaue City is considered as the "little rich city" of the Philippines. The city is an industrial hub of Central Visayas. Mandaue City approximately hosts 10,000 commercial and industrial locators.

The Mantawi Festival is Mandaue City's famous festivity. It is a festival of rediscovering the rich cultural heritage of Mandaue City. The historical past of Mandaue City is interconnected with the city's achievement and success at the present. The Mantawi Festival is also a tourism tool of the city.

Mandaue City's Mantawi Festival consists of a historical parade with diorama floats and street dancing. The festival unfolds the rich history of Mandaue City. Government employees, public schools, and private schools are the participants in the parade. The participants perform the seven historical eras of Mandaue City's history from 1521 up to the present time.

In the Mantawi Festival, native delicacies are made into dance movements. Interpretative dance of salt and broom making are seen in the streets. Live dioramas of Mandaue City's major historical era are viewed on the Float Parade. Mandaue City's values of unity, family, and solidarity are translated effectively in the street dancing and diorama floats.

The Mantawi Festival of Mandaue City relives the past and cultivates the centuries-old culture. The purpose is that the present generation may fully understand the rich history and heritage of Mandaue City.
