The most bothersome things that people do here while they are in the Philippines.
    1. Foreigners who write about the Philippines without knowing anything about it.
    2. People who look down on another’s.
    3. Foreigners who show complete lack of knowledge about the country and culture.
    4. Thoughtless for another’s feelings.
    5. Poor hygiene.
    6. A person who is cruelly outspoken.
    7. Racial intolerance in people.
    8. A person with an air of supremacy.
    9. Wealthy people who are high and mighty.
    10. People who disagree stalwartly in their opinion in a conversation.

A kind word and a smile goes a long way in the Philippines.

Hey Teach, don't forget to hang on when that category 4 typhoon hits. Perhaps you can add some personal info to the "typhoon" thread.

    Politeness and Respect..

I had a Religious Study teacher...

He always stress on the issue of being polite and respectful... and made us memories verse from the Bible, that I had seem to forgot... but i still remember this phrase from him "most of the time when you do good, you suffer"... and yes seems to be true in most cases anyway....

By that measure I should take to urinating in public, spitting, cutting to the front of lines, aimlessly walking down the sidewalk without any regard to flow of pedestrian traffic, bathing in front of the blvd, and all the other looy habits in PI just to make the locals like me?

Hardly. I'm not that desperate, and fyi I get along great with Filipinos. ..Teacher I'm told you're not even in the Philipppines, but Taiwan instead? Really?

People like you suggesting that Westerners are supposed to abandoned 50+ years of good upbringing etc to appease flimsy Third World values just drive me nuts. If you're so impressed nirvana then go right ahead and your guilty Western self, for it is you find so amazing.

Odd how we in the US don't expect visitors here to unravel who and what they are when they visit.. It's only the nouveau expats who are quick to shame their country and countrymen.

You should be careful who you diss on the way up, because when it all subsides, you will meet them again on the way down. - I've gone thru that bs so many times with the newbies all on fire with PI.

    10. People who disagree marked by outstanding strength and vigor of body, mind or spirit, in their opinion in a conversation.

    :D

yeah that is a big help Rhoody

this place is getting a bit heavy handed tbh

1-9 seem sort of universal and I am still a bit in the dark about nr 10

1-10 don't be an *sshole and show a bit of respect and manners, if you want some local credibility try to act like you got some dignity maybe.
