Hi everyone! I need help. I'll be traveling alone from Cebu City to Dumaguete on May 19-21. Here is the itinerary that I'm thinking:

    19-May
    600 ETA Mactan
    700 ETA Cebu City
    800 Travel to Dumaguete City
    1400 ETA Dumaguete City
    20-May
    700 ETA Apo Island
    600 ETA Dumaguete City
    21-May
    700 ETD Dumaguete
    800 ETA Santander/Lilo An (Cebu)

    My questions are:
    1. Where can I stay in Dumaguete that is cheap since I'll be traveling alone?
    2. What is the cheapest way to go to Apo Island? I cant afford to rent a whole boat... :( And is it possible to do just a day trip?
    3. How far is it from Dumaguete to Apo?
    4. What are places I can go to while I'm in Dumaguete?

I greatly appreciate the all the tips and help you can give me.)

I will try to help you on 2 of your questions.
There is actually only ONE way to go to Apo Island: By boat ! (unless you are a very good swimmer :D )
Assuming you prefer a 'transfer' with one of the boats you need to pay a certain amount dependend on with how many you can share the trip and dependend on a 5 person boat or a 15 person boat .....
Be carefull with the small boats for max 5 persons, unless you're lucky with the absence of waves
So with some luck you can share a 15 persons boat with a lot of other persons, but honestly .....at 7 AM I don't see there a lot of people waiting when making my morning beach-walk to the Malatapay pier.
    A daytrip is possible.

Malatapay pier is exactly 25 Km south of Dumaguete and you need to count on a travel time from Dgte to the pier in Malatapay of 45 minutes, unless you have your own motorbike to go, which could give you a 15 minutes advantage.

If you cant swim than obviously you cant dive, so why were you going to Apo Island

What I said ........at 7 AM I did not see a lot of people waiting for the early morning trip to Apo. But I could be wrong that at days when I'm not there it's very crowded.
Simply go there and hope there are enough to join you and the waves have a resting day if you need to take a 5-seat boat
Dave....what about snorkeling at Apo with good equipment ? (and a proper sized swimm tube !)
No need to be capable to swimm :D .....just move your legs up and down.
