About 5 years ago, 4 of us started a charity group here called the Thursday Club with the sole purpose to assist the poor children here with 100% of the money going toward the projects. We invited Rhoody to join and he agreed we could post our charity projects on DI Forum along with a contact if anyone wanted to join our group or offer any funds or labor for our projects. Our projects included making upgrades to some elementary schools in need, an annual Christmas presents for sick children at the provincial hospital, and food relief following the Sendong typhoon. My point is that we never personally asked for support but many members came forward joining our team and/or giving money to help. In fact we were surprised at the support we had when we posted a project, even members who were overseas wired money. So from that experience, I agree with Gerry that putting a flyer announcing your project and inviting those that were interested to help out.
