These were photos taken in 2004 visit of the twin lakes. We've been to these lakes 3 times (1987,1991 ,2004 )and I'll find those ancient photos yet to show the diff of what it was like there before and now. This time it's easier to get to these lakes, can even do it with habal habal, the tracks are clear and even road sections going to the lakes cemented. In 1987,you have to find your way across the overgrowth of intertwined ferns , wild shrubs and vines and adding to the excitement is to find the faint trail leading to the lakes, plus it was said to have been infested with NPA's ,more thrill. No wonder in 1991 were were mistaken as one of them.Caught up in very intimadating suspense by an army comando trooper bursting out of the dense vegetation, posing like a 'ramboo' wearing red white bandana in his head ,with his M16 nozzle pointed at me ,he only spoke in few words " don't move!" ,bloody hell, i nearly sh*t my pants that time, never had been frightened in my life like that. All like in the movies but real . Then he called other army troopers in twin lakes, escorted us off to Agan-an ,Sibulan army barracks for questioning .But didn't happen straight away we were brought marching down with them downhill to their dettachment unit in the village where we were collected by the army transport that fetched us to Agan-an ,withheld overnight because of the waiting game for the high ranking major or something who's not there to .Perhaps thinking we're the hard core ones in the mountains they caught that day .Kind of a shitty, stupid ,scarry you name it ...experience indeed  But despite of it all a credit to the army they were very professional in handling us,except the 'ramboo' one that burst out of no where ,can give anyone a heart attack.

Nowadays ,no worries the area is safe and more developement eyed on the twin lakes for tourism.

The road going up Twin Legs is about 14.5 km from the mainroad, and partialy cemented.( work in progress) Those parts not (yet) cemented are rough, but it's easy with a 4x4 drive. Even a simple Multicap 2 wheel drive, can do it (have one and did it) but not advised after/during heavy rains.
Beautifull view as shown on the pictures.
Just in case you get stocked-up, just call me :D I'm living 1 km from the main-road entrance to Twin Legs.
Have a good time out there !!!!

I went on an XL 125 with my wife back in 1997 and it was rough going - her main concern was the NPA .... a motocross club was coming down as we were giong up - no NPA - I have taken guests up 5 or 6 times in the past 2 years in a 2 wd multicab and a 4 wd van - no problems but the road is narrow in the places they are paving one side
and it used to be free - then 10 peso - now its 100 peso for foreigners and 10peso for locals and they recently added a fee for the vehicle

There are no more NPAs in twin lakes they said.Adding to it according to our source those people minding the Lake were former rebel returnees given some jobs . Infact there is rumoured housing developement a distance from the lake for those people.

Time we were there, there was an entrance fee ,then for the small hut we were occupying, then for the boat ,but not a lot of money .We gave the young lad/boy a tip just for helping up paddling ,but he gave it to the lady minder ,and the lady put it quickly in her pocket, hmmmmn .

Pickled newt, I couldn't bear the thought of what you and your family had been through the ordeal of your very first trip to the twin lakes. As of the moment, I will pass going to the place, maybe someday. Surely we will follow your treks to the geothermal power plant, pulang bato falls, and so forth but not the twin lakes. Just would not like to take the risk...
