just a heads up for applicable U.S. I rec’d the annual “are you still alive” form tosign and return, if you need to check your mail. I did not receive my dependent’s form yet.
I received mine today. My wife did not. My last SS digit is even, hers’ is odd. Could that be the reason? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah got mine yesterday pain in the A""".. I go to LBC paid 1400p.. Then call them with tracking number a week later to make sure it was received..."Why""??...My checks have been stopped 2 times already past 10 years...and don't need the hassle to get them reinstated... can not depend on post office here... so for $25.00 or so..I just do i.t Make sure you take contact number for S/S with you if you use LBC...also when they send it they just eliminate the PO Box # It gets there
Just changed from U.S bank account to here at BDO so I guess I will be getting a yearly letter now ? Will they send to a P.O box so I will not depend on delivery ? any tips from those who have dealt with this for a while ..
A friend successfully has his sent to a P.O. Box at the Dumaguete main post office. It may take an extra month while the change is processed but you will not lose a transfer.
That doesn't sound like a pain in the @ss at all. That actually sounds quite reasonable. I don't think it is too much for the American taxpayer to ask if their socialist handouts are going to a living person.
I use a US bank but still get the letter. Your address on file would probably determine whether or not you should get a letter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Since we will go back to America this year and every year for vacation, we will just mail the form from within the States. Socialist handouts is a fairly good description of the US SS Trust fund; during our working years there is mandatory participation for workers where 15% of earnings is confiscated from workers and employers. The return is a relatively paltry distribution. If the same money had been put into investments or a simple annuity, those who “contributed” the max would be very well off indeed. In this system, the best I can say is the rich is subsidizing the poor. The worst I can say is that it is confiscated wealth that the government illegally borrowed, and they took too much (they couldn’t resist). Ttheoretically it is supposed to be a worker funded plan, not an “entitlement” or handout, and it is now unsustainable not because it is too generous to the retiree beneficiaries but because the govt wasted it. We all know the house of cards will eventually fall. And when it does there is no promise the govt will pick up the pieces, present and future retirees will simply be screwed. It is indeed socialist because it is government confiscation and redistribution of wealth. Past efforts to privatize it have failed. The Philippines SSA is a private system that works, for Filipinos. Sorry djfinn, I have a different opinion of U.S. SSA. I waited until age 68 to apply for the monthly SSA. So I receive the monthly max amount and my son receives half of what I receive. A very nice supplement to my retirement. God bless the USA.
I agree, God Bless the USA, but I also expect the USA to handle the SS trust fund properly since the US chose long ago to handle the pension annuity that I paid for. That money you may have thought was missing from your paycheck was for a single life annuity. You have no idea how valuable you monthly max would have been had you done this privately.
