Wow, Negros Oriental, and the Philippines just got lucky!
One of the world's greatest living boxing coaches, Joe Clough will relocate from Thailand in October! He was named M. Ali's Gym coach 1978-1980, named coach of the Year in USA 1972,1976,1977. He was the Thai Team Olympic coach at the 1984 L.A. Olympics.
At age 67, Mr. Clough has at least one more Olympic Gold Medalists to train in this land where a humble athlete/boxer named Manny Pacquaio has become a role model to Filipino youth and adored by his peers worldwide.
Joe, is old school, his training methods enabled him to become friends of the Cuban coaches as well as all in the World of this Olympic Sport.

He hopes to train the trainers and leave a wonderful legacy behind here, one that allows his students to do well at school, bringing out their character, self confident, self esteem and respect for themselves and others.

To all the kids, potential coaches, and worldwide athletes, as well as fans,
    you'll be welcome.

Of course there will be well known boxers and athletes visiting the Academy, training and learning from the best. Once, at the Olympics, Michael Jordan, the basketball icon, had a conversation with Mr. Clough. Mr. Jordan admired Coach Clough, as has been the case since he started coaching at age 19. Coach Clough boxed as an amateur and seems to bring out the best of his students, although ask the folks over in Cebu, the pros, about his tough training. He has given three months training the slum kids over there earlier this year too. Joe was the coach of the 1986 Philippines Team coach that competed at the Asian Games in Korea that year. He has had coaching clinics in virtually every Asia country over the last 25+ years. He has given instruction to athletes from all over the world at his Bangkok based venues.
He is a physical education teacher, earning his degree from Central Washington many years ago. He believes in allowing his athletes to go as far as their talent and dedication will take them...the Olympics...he is a winner, and his students become winners in the sport and in life.
He has never pushed his students to become professional as most others do. Here in the Philippines many coaches want to earn money and turn their boxers pro at 15 years old! Also, in many countries some coaches are greedy and take half the meager "donation" of a winning amateur boxers.
That's not Joe, he has never been in it for the Money, nor the Glory!
    Let's give Joe support!

Wow, if this is true, then it is no longer impossible to have the next world boxing champion coming from Dumaguete or Dauin. To all the boxing fans, you should get your training from the real mc-coy.

We're all looking forward to your arrival Joe. The kids in this area need good roll models and healthy activity.
