Sundown Restobar | Dumaguete Info

The Sundown Restobar venue was extensively renovated in mid 2010 with particular attention to aesthetics and quality. A trellised step stone path guides you through the lawn and outside seating area into the slightly raised bar area where we were greeted by smiling faces and a colorful menu. Beverages were offered and ample time to consider our options was provided. Unfortunately some of the drinks were unavailable (shakes), as they were on our former visit but some more pricey juice alternatives were available so we took those.

The menu was mainly Filipino food which also seemed to be at a premium but “you get what you pay for” rang through my mind. I eventually decided on the Grilled Pork Chops with rice and the Beef Steak Tagalog. Within 20 minutes, the food arrived but as the only customer and with the choice of food, it could have been faster. I am a fan of Filipino foods and eat them every day but I think I was unlucky this time as the pork chops were wafer thin and cooked solid. The Beef Steak Tagalog was much better but still quite tough. Luckily, the beer was extremely cold, the staff remained chatty and the music was pretty great. The view of the gasoline station provided a quirky although not unpleasant twist to the visit as did the hustle and bustle of the busy highway intersection. I’ll revisit Sundown as it was only the food letting the place down and if as I suspect it improves, I’ll update this review with the details.
