The Silliman University Parade is a yearly tradition for the University. This year, Silliman University celebrates its 114th year with the theme, Via, Veritas, Vita: Now and Always. In line with this are series of activities. In this article, I will give you some highlights about the City Parade that happened last August 27, 2015. The parade started around 2pm and ended at almost 6pm. The parade was long as each College had prepared some stunts and dance numbers for the audience. The parade was composed of reunioning batches, students, bands from Silliman and bands from different schools, City officials, teachers and parents. This year, every College Department had prepared a float which represents their course and which is related to the theme this year.  The floats are properly and artistically  made because it is also a contest. Each College Department also prepared a special production number for the judges. The judges are waiting at the Silliman Grand Stand where the parade would usually end. The parade is also composed of alumni and alumnus students from Silliman University. The different departments are also part of the parade. From the Early Childhood, Elementary, High School and College Department. The Silliman Medical Center Hospital officials also joined the parade as well as the Business of Finance staffs, library staffs and other organizations of Silliman University.

This parade is really important for all the Sillimanians and even the staffs of Silliman University. It is also a day for them to celebrate at the time, rest and unwind from their busy schedules. This parade is always the most awaited part of the Founders day event. People are always excited to watch the parade and would even wait at the downtown area to see the parade. Some would wait at the Grand Stand. The parade usually starts at the downtown area to the public market, then to Freedom Park then to the Silliman Ball Field or Grand Stand. The float for the Miss Silliman is at the last part of the parade which is also the most awaited part of the parade. People are excited  to see the pretty ladies of Silliman University.

After the parade, a short program and devotion is held at the Silliman Grand Stand. After which, people will continue the event at the Silliman Hibalag Booth area. Others would have their batch reunions and get together. The highlight of this event is being one as they celebrate Founders Day. To bond with fellow Sillimanians. To meet and greet the winners of each department. To see the leaders of Silliman and to worship our all mighty God for always giving blessings every year. So if you visit Dumaguete in the month of August, expect a lot of activities which is related to Silliman University. And the good thing about this is that even if you are not a Sillimanian, you can still join the fun and celebrate with the crowd. What more can you ask for? Join the fun. And prepare for next years Founders Day.
