Enlivened by the theme “Via, Veritas, Vita: Now and Always”, Silliman University (SU) will celebrate its 114th Foundation Day Events on August 16-29, 2015 at the SU Church. The Silliman family conducts a two-week-long celebration to commemorate the day when the SU institution was founded. SU is the first Protestant University in the Philippines established in 1901. The Silliman University Founder’s Week is an event held annually in the last weeks of August. The said occasion is composed of different festive events and activities like class reunions, alumni, fraternity and organizational get-together, booth-building contest, concerts, invitational games with other schools, exhibits, awarding ceremonies particularly the Outstanding Sillimanian Awards, and the most awaited beauty pageant of the year (Miss Silliman). This year’s month celebration will officially start with the Opening Ceremony followed by the traditionally commenced Annual Church Anniversary Service to be held at the SU Church on August 16, 2015 at 9:30 in the morning.

One of the highlights of the week-long event is the HIBALAG Opening to be held on the fourth day of the celebration, August 18, 2015, at seven in the evening in the Ravello Ball field. HIBALAG is a huge get-together where students and alumni friends gather in one single activity to spend some time with old friends and colleagues.
At eight in the evening of August 24, 2015 will be the Miss Silliman Pageant Night. The venue of the pageant will be on Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Complex.

The following day, the crowd-drawing All University Cheering Competition will take place at three in the afternoon in the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Complex. On the same day, SU will open the gates for the Silliman High School Centennial Welcome Night to be held at four in the a 26th fternoon at the SU grounds.

In honor of the Outstanding Sillimanian Awardees of 2015, there will be a parade and review on the 26th of August at five in the afternoon in Filomeno Cimafranca Building. The said parade and review of awardees will be followed by the All University Memorial Service at the SU Church to be led and given by Rev. Elmer Saa. The fashionable city-wide parade will march on the 27th at three in the afternoon. The said SU parade is known as the “Parada Sillimaniana” where students from different departments show off their winning cheer moves and chants. Traditionally, the parade is characterized by the use of floats displaying the new Miss Silliman of the current year, the parade of varied school and university marching bands of Dumaguete, and alumni representing a particular college, department, or school. The week-long event will be culminated on the anniversary day of the founding of the university, August 28, with the Founder’s Day Sunrise Service to be held at the SU Amphi Theatre at five in the morning. The morning service will be headed by Bishop Melzar Labuntog. At nine o’clock of the same day will be the Outstanding Sillimanian Awards 2015 Convocation at the Luce Auditorium. The noble awardees are Miguel Braganza, Emmanuel Abellanosa, and Rowena Guanzon.
