Girlfriend heard the monkey throwing a massive tantrum in the back today. She went out to check what was going on and found this.

I asked her what the color pattern was and she said this one was a perfect match:

Paradise tree snake. Mostly harmless...and doesn't eat monkeys. So I didn't much care about it. GF learned that a broom stick doesn't do much other than p*ss off a snake. It then crawled down "a hole" (which was the drain for the washing machine, of course I didn't tell them that). I kinda hope the thing sticks around and takes out those rats in the attic.

You should look them up, "Paradise tree snakes" live in the tree tops of palm trees, they mainly live on small geckos and other snakes, they are no match for a rat or even a mouse, but I could imagine that they eat baby birds and baby mice...

"It is mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of about 100 meters in a glide from the top of a tree. Slow motion photography shows an undulation of the snake's body in flight while the head remains relatively stable, suggesting controlled flight. They are mildly venomous with rear fangs and also can constrict their prey, which consists of mostly lizards and bats."

Cool! A local poisonous snake that flies!

2m king cobra skin found outside azalea resto on the way up to twin lakes, never seen a live one yet! There are many species of snake here on negros. A few yrs ago we spotted a 12 ft reticulated python stretched across the road in the bacong area.

Yeah, I read all that stuff too. I wanted her to go scare it away before my monkey had a heart attack. I likely would have gave her a heart attack if I mentioned that it was venomous....and was capable of flying. I have a visual of her swatting at it with a broom handle and then out of nowhere it coils up and jumps over the wall to get away. I can only imagine that the story would have involve witch craft, magic and the devil and how she was going to move out of the house immediately.

It did hiss and snap at her and her sister when they were "hitting it" (i watched the video, they were barely poking it and in the most girly fashion one could possible go about it and then running away after each failed attempt). Girls screaming and squealing, running away jumping up and down and crying, monkey was jumping up and down, shaking the cage and making all sorts of noise....it was chaos.....and the most entertaining thing I have seen this year.

King Cobra's do not exist in the Philippines. and 2 meters would be a pretty small king cobra. There is the Philippine Cobra, but it is not known to live in Negros. Masbate is the furthest south it has been verified to inhabit. (Of course that doesn't mean it isn't here.)

The Philippine Cobra was a big concern when I lived in Olongapo. Most of the bites would occur during the rainy season when they would head to high ground, which usually is someone's house. Gotta watch out for those as they can spit their venom.....but hey, at least it cant fly, yet.

I was in a Vet's office a few years ago and he had a box full of young snakes, he claimed they were King Cobra's.
