The large majority of Muslims I have met are pleasant/kind/good/forgiving/happy. I have met some turds but they come at about the same rate as any other religion. It's a bit unfair how they are projected in the media but they do have a very "loud" "conservative" branch that needs to be dealt with.

Another aspect that Westerners need to realize is that the life and culture is very different in the ME and SWA. It is a very brutal environment and tough to survive in. Are women treated differently? Very much so.....but you have to realize the differences between the genders is very relevant. Women want to say they are equal in everything that is life in the West. I'm sorry, but that's just not true. There are physical differences that do exist between genders. Life in Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iraq/Iran/Syria or any other poor nation is brutal. They aren't sitting behind desks, they aren't using their minds, it hasn't been automated by machines. It is an extremely physical world that revolves mainly around producing crops/live stalk. Most women cannot handle the amount of physical labor the environment requires there. Look at the Philippines, how often do you see women doing the truly physical jobs? Not very often. Yeah, you see them in the rice fields and that is hard work and I do respect them for doing it, but plopping some rice down in the mud doesn't take much physical strength.

Europe and the Americas had very similar/strict gender roles when the large percentage of jobs revolved around physical labor. Women stayed at home and men went out to do hard labor. Even if you look at the physical labor jobs today you don't see long lines of women looking to get hired. Sure, there are some, they are tough, but they are not the norm. Even then what you normally see is women working in tech factories where the hard labor has been largely taken over by machinery.

The ME and SWA are behind the West when it comes to economy, human rights and quality of life.....but lets not act like we didn't have any part in that. We have had our hands in their cookie jars for quite some time, influencing their economies and politics. A peaceful ME/SWA is not beneficial to the West in any way.

There is a great love story playing on the movie channel today. Its about Diana, a Christian and a Princess falling in love with Dodi Fayed, a Muslim. I think that fits the topic title.
