    “SA IMMIGRATION MAGSUMBONG” PROGRAM

    The Bureau of Immigration (BI) instituted the reward and incentive program dubbed as “SA IMMIGRATION MAGSUMBONG”. Said program aims to lessen the number of temporary visitors or tourists who have stayed in the country beyond their authorized stay or more commonly known as “OVERSTAYING ALIENS”. This program further encourages the public to be vigilant in report...ing of such. In return, they shall be granted a monetary incentive of Php 2,000 upon successful apprehension of reported foreign national via SMS (text message) to the following numbers:

    SMART - +63 908 894 6644
    SUN - +63 932 894 6644
    GLOBE - +63 917 573 3871

    The format of the text message shall contain the following information:
    SIM <space> FULL NAME OF FOREIGNER <space> COMPLETE ADDRESS <space> NAME OF INFORMANT

    All employees and personnel of the BI and other government law enforcement agencies shall be disqualified from participating in the said program. It is also underscored that all information received by the Bureau relative to this program shall be treated with utmost confidentiality.

    Oh wow. That's just a bad idea. They are going to have so many false reports. I will certainly be much more reluctant to make friends with locals.

    Haha, what the hell is wrong with this country? Every day my desire to stay is in an epic battle with being sick of being in the presence of so much stupidity. That this was posted on Facebook was a nice touch.

    There are a few people on my sh*t list. If they keep it up I might just have to have immigration check up on their status....immigration can keep their 2k pesos.

    But really, who do they think they are fooling? Immigration is NOT going to get off their butts and leave their air conditioned office to go find some foreigner that is a couple months over their extension date. The only way that this will be enforced is if someone was stupid enough to p*ss of a connected local.

    They say that immigration and law enforcement can't collect......but what about their wives/children/cousins? BoI officer goes through the paperwork and finds names/addresses from paperwork and hands info to family....split profits. Too easy.

    Right, it doesn't change anything on the enforcement side. It only adds something to the incentive to reporting.

    I'm sure the enforcement side would have more incentive to haul in the big fish in hopes of a handout. A homeless foreigner who is an obvious overstay might have to commit an additional crime to get attention. :wink:

    Dobbing. Never heard that word used in the U.S. and don't like the sound of it, must be Brit or Aussie and now Filipino who use it. I prefer 'rat fink' or 'F over' or something more to the point.
