There are cases documented by doctors of people becoming physically ill (temperatures, psychosis, vomiting and so on) because they think they have been put under curses. I remember seeing in a show that a doctor could not treat it with traditional medicine and hired a fake witch doctor to cure the guys illness and the guy immediately started getting better. Guess it was some form of severe "spiritual" hypochondria. I have looked for the video clip because it was quite interested to watch but couldn't find it (there are just too many crap videos from people made by people who actually believe in the stuff). I want to say that the show took place somewhere in Louisiana or the Caribbean.

The mind is a powerful thing and ignorance can be very dangerous. In the case of the link above I blame the Catholic church leaders and culture here in the Philippines.

I guess I shouldn't be flippant about these things but for many years I smirked when people cross themselves before setting off, mainly on motor cycles.

About 2 years ago, my nephew had a mishap on his bike. he said it was his own fault as he never crossed himself? Nothing to do with his Bad Riding of course.

Indeed the mind is a Funny thing, are they just an accident waiting to happen and looking for someone/thing to blame for the mishap or praise, if they get away with an accident?

Rarely do they take responsibility for their own actions. I'm not sure where this immature mentality comes from but it's the reason the country is what it is.

Futher investigation found that in fact the kids had been into their parents' shabu stash. Demonic possession was confused with being tweaked out.

Otherwise, there is nothing new here. We have known for quite some time that bat-sh*t-crazy is contagious. Fortunately I'm under an intensive vaccination program consisting of reading, continuing education and an expansive sense of humor.

Similar grounds. I know friends who have quite smoking through things like acupuncture and hypnotism. If it works, then you can't really argue with the cure.

After i did a Google search I couldn't figure out if it was 2, 12, 17, 18, 20 or 30 students that had been possessed in that school.....every article says something different. I think the more that it makes the news the more that will claim to have been possessed for the attention, pretty soon the whole d*mn city will have been possessed.

I didn't find any mention of drugs being involved though. I do find it strange that the first reaction to kids collapsing and convulsing was to immediately take them to the church for a exorcism and not the hospital for an medical check-up. Complete ignorance.

Maybe the church is cheaper than the hospital or they know where to find the expert. He's an other one I wanted to post in that time but did not know how. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/loca...ossessions-result-cancellation-classes-373602

This are for me the best parts < said that if the parents of the students will allow them, a priest who is an expert in exorcising demons and spirits can help.> and <If demonic possession is proven, a trained priest will conduct a “rite of deliverance” for the six students'>

Last I checked Priests are not doctors. The "experts" are at the hospital, anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that. There is no defense for taking a sick child to a priest for treatment, it is child abuse.

If I had a child in that school I would immediately pull them and search for a school with staff that aren't complete morons. I would not want my child subjected to such stupidity.

    well
I would never have believed this but have to admit that I am so very surprised at my Wife, For a Supposed Clever and Educated person I just did not want to hear the answer I got from a Question I asked.

" If Trisha came home and told you she felt she was possessed and had been vomiting a lot, What would you do?"

She answered, I would take her to see a Priest. I was Absolutely, Gob Smacked at this I can tell you. I have never been a particularly religious person even for my families following, Now, I can see my Day to day Reality Responsibilities are following the right course. To me it has to be Health First, Spiritual Thoughts and fears surely must take a back seat.
What a thing to have to admit on this issue but I just can't pretend, I did not hear the Answer. No doubt I will be somewhat castigated by the family for this but how, can they be so wrong.
I know he said " Suffer the little children to come unto me" but i don't think he actually meant it this way.

Do we live in 1514 0r 2014, Good question.
Have we as human beings advance since 1514? We still treat our fellow man as something to be use or abused, we still have slavery, wars etc.
We can send men to the moon, but we can't find a cure for cancer. Yes we are very clever so why do we need as intelligent human beings, feel the need to take drugs,
or get drunk to feel happy, yes we are living in 2014.
One sentence in that article said and I quote "Tan said that the chuch is considering the possibility that this incident, may just of been a case of mass hysteria"
Before the CATHOLIC church (that Wrye takes pleasue in bashing) will declare a possible miracle (unexplained happenning) can and does take years of research and investigation. In case you have forgot you are living in a country that in parts, is still living in the dark ages. People in todays world, in a so called intelligent society are flocking to theatres to have Mediums tell them their fortunes, to get in touch with dead relatives, yet they dont believe in Religion, LOL
Some people want to keep their bread and eat it.
No more comment on this thread from me, have a nice night. JB
