The person responsible for this is a problem as well. There is no excuse for this. Someone with an anger management issue took judgement into his / her own hands and assaulted this person. The "tourist" may have been assaulting women there, but the proper way to deal with that is to a) leave and / or b) have management, security or the police deal with the problem. If you are a woman and you don't want to be harassed, you should never go there. Whynot is a dangerous place. Nobody seems to be able to do what is needed to clean this place up, so it will continue to be a problem. I hope it closes so that it can be replaced by something more responsibly run.
Staff/management/guards didn't care and you know that they wouldn't . It escalated too quickly for the police to be called. It went from acting like a drunk idiot (something I don't think warrants violence or calling the police) to the guy giving the middle finger to the girl he was harassing, taking her drink and acting like he was going to throw it at her and then start verbally abusing her in public and the wife throwing glasses and a plate and grabbing my gf's hair in a matter of seconds (this warrants an immediate and extreme violent reaction in my book....and yes, I will beat a woman if they are trying to inflict serious bodily harm on someone I care about). If the guy hadn't have knocked the drunk idiot out I sure the hell would have given it my best go, he honestly beat me to the punch and the drunk did deserve it. The woman threw one of those big plates across the bar, if it had connected that could have seriously hurt someone or even killed them. There are times when people do deserve to have the sh*t knocked out of them and they were a perfect example of it. I refuse to live in this new age hippy world where they say "violence is never the answer". Violence is an answer, some people do deserve it and it does resolve problems, quickly. As for passing judgment, when a person(s) resorts to verbally and physically assaulting a woman for no reason other than he is a drunk a-hole he should be immediately "judged" as a threat and beaten like the b*tch that he is. However, I don't like people who are always looking for a fight and I am certainly not one of those people. It takes a lot to push me to a point where I find violence is an option (which is usually when someone resorts to violence first). The drunk and his wife deserved it and I'm glad the guy that hit him did (he did not touch the drunk's wife). His actions that night were justified. I understand the two of you have a history and I certainly think he/they were wrong in the incident that happened between you guys (from the story I heard anyway). There is no excuse for that sh*t. If I left every bar every time some drunk idiot was being a drunk idiot and management did nothing about it I wouldn't be able to enjoy my nights out. This is something about the Philippines a person has to deal with. Guards are their to sleep, not guard anything or maintain the peace. Why Not is far from dangerous. Only two times in my 4 plus years of going there (and I go several times a week) has a person acted like a complete fool like the guy did that night. Bars back home you are lucky to go one week without a bunch of rednecks starting fights and getting arrested, compared to that Why Not is freaking Disney Land.
Certainly the guards at Why Not are not hired to do much more than look like guards. Maybe if cardboard cut outs were used they could save more money. Do not depend on the guards to assist a customer in any way. I do not even park my motorcycle directly in front since i have had items removed from my MC while parked in front of Why Not. The security guard company was changed over a year ago and the new company is just for decoration The old guards had a great business there as motorcycle attendants, and you could be sure you motorcycle was guarded and prepared for you departure, even if you were not. In the disco there is a foreigner guard that take his job seriously now but he only works on the busy nights of he week, Wednesday and Friday I think. The rest of the week you are on your own inside. As always keep you heads up and an eye on the closest emergency exit.
I'm not a practitioner of hippy, new ageism so I don't know what their argument would be for non-violence. Here are my own points. 1) Unless I'm interested in watching someone be a total @ss and to potentially witness a fight, then I'm leaving as soon as this person begins to become a centerpiece for my night at the bar. I get that you don't always want to leave every time someone is being an @ss. For me, that's has increasingly been reality though. As I get older, I have less tolerance for this sort of thing. 2) The first item largely only happens in places which allow this to happen. Things can happen quickly, but ownership which is vigilant in setting the culture of the bar and enforcing strict rules goes a long way in preventing this sort of thing. This is easier done in a small bar, but with good staff it can happen in a large bar as well. You act on bad behavior quickly. You eject people who are being obnoxious. You ban people who are regularly a problem. You set the tone that bad behavior will not be tolerated. 3) I'm not anti-violence. Police have to use force to do their job. Force is violence, though a pro will attempt for the violence to be controlled. I support the U.S. government participating in armed conflicts. I loved how Richard Marcinko (claims to be the founder of the so-called "Seal Team 6") described how his team used the idea of "a monopoly of violence" to take control of a situation. The movie, Roadhouse, comes to mind here. Be nice until it's time to stop being nice. Bad actors will get removed from the bar with necessary force. Force implies violence. But this violence should be carried out by a pro charged with the task to do this. It should not be carried out by customers, especially those who are pissed off and drunk. 4) I'm more interested in risk management than non-violence. Violence is highly chaotic and dangerous. I have much more important things to deal with than getting into fights. Bob acting like an *sshole isn't my problem to solve in this world. I'm not concerned with local drama and I just want to stay well clear of if. I don't need for a situation I could have avoided to result in me having to deal with medical or legal issues. I have too many things going on and I couldn't fit that headache into my life. I try to pick my battles wisely and a Whynot scuffle is not a wise decision for me. 5) I realize that some bars are far more violent than Whynot. I feel that a bar is a culture and fighting can sometimes be an extension of that culture. I have had so many friends get into fights for the silliest reasons. Eventually I figured out that they simply loved to fight and the silly reasons were actually a code. Again, the ownership needs to take control of the culture. 6) While you make a good case for the reasons that the actions were justified here, often the situation isn't as clear cut. Often these actions against assholes are based on factors such as how much the would be hero has had to drink and emotions. Rather than attempt to figure out if I'm making the right decision, I use the points above as a heuristic (rule of thumb.) It boils down to - pass the problem off and get the f*ck out of dodge before the guns start blazing. We're cool now. Interestingly, info from the night you witnessed all this never reached me. I didn't know who was involved when I read your post. I didn't intend to point out anyone specific as this isn't info which would change my position on the subject. I appreciate you taking the more realistic side here. Act like this *sshole in 100 random bars through the world and you will end up on the floor in a large percentage of them.
I agree with TheDude's comment, " I try to pick my battles wisely and a Whynot scuffle is not a wise decision for me". I don't go to WhtNot but the last thing I would want is a 250 pound drunk tw@t swinging as hard as he can and sucker punching me in the teeth. Of course if I was Dustin's date I would feel safe. lol
I leave the bar before midnight, if I stay longer or maybe because I had 4 shots of whatever!! Everyone looks like an ex-convict and speaking a different languages they were no more appetizing to look at except for the Pinay girls and the Bayots who looks more beautiful due to light enhancement. I NO to any substance and alcohol. I keep myself into moderation so I better leave before my darling bana(a retired Samurai cum Ninja) gets into a brawl. I like WHY HOT!! from 9pm-11:50pm, (I visit at least once evry 2months) I play billiard(the exclusive room a bit discreet and away from disco and the servers have better bosoms there) enjoyed 2-3 shots of after dinner drink, beat my husband at least 1 or 2 games!! And spank his butt! Enjoy WHY HOT during happy hour!! NOT wee wee hour
I do the same thing. I'm usually there from 9 until 12 to play billiards. Then I go to Zanzibar to talk to a friend and for some Vodka and Red Bull, usually stay there for an hour or so. I rarely have a problem.....other than fighting off all the girls (I'm told it's because I'm so gwapo and I'm not allowed to go out by myself because of it ).
