Seed and Plant exchange for 2015

jack... we grow romaine and cukes at 1200ft elv with ok success. after comparing our cukes with the market cukes, i no longer buy market cukes between our crops. same for green beans, tomatoes (taste-wise) but i ''need'' them so we buy.

i tried some spuds awhile back but they died and i haven't retired but remember, i'm new to tropical gardening.

Thanks for your progress report, even if you do not make progress down a certain "bunny trial" at least the rest of us know not to take that path. Al linformation helps.... successes and less...

I am somewhat committed to the Mid-March seed exchange now, but when do you recommend the next one after that one?

Soil: is there any way to get a soil text her, to see what the chemical make of the soil is here? I would like to get one if they are economically feasible.

 

AH! OK nice to have someone else to understand my desires, I will keep my eyes on your posts when you get things going. When you say you are not retired yet I gather then, you are not here full time?

Try the department of agriculture close to the provincial hospital.
I had my soil tested there 7 years ago.

d*mn that was a boring reply... I better add more....Have you gotten the results back yet? Is this a governmental office? ... I heard that the wait is three years to submit the soil sample with no breaks to go to BI for immigration extensions which makes the penalty fees exorbitant. I guess the one green thumb washes the other green thumb, and they end up with a green handfull of money. .

 

Denpet and ShawnM, I believe it was the two of you that wanted the hydroponic things I had available here. I would suggest that we meet and you two can divide up the hydroponic goodies I have here.(if I am wrong and it was someone else just contact me through this forum).
If you are interested I can take you over to Grahaim Reinders place, he grows lettuce commercially by hydroponic methods. He is a good source of information and has even written a couple of books on the subject. Just communicate with me when you want to meet.

The Seed Exchange can take a lot of my time, labor and money to put together over the next couple of months, and frankly the previous posts "uncalled for" rating (along with the two funny rates of people who read it) sort of put me over the top as far really wanting to put in the effort for seed exchange this year. so I am seriously just considering cancelling this years Seed Exchange. I will speak to my two helpers regarding a decision today. I would just grow vegetables and giving them to the neighbors here, as they are lots of people who need food around me and I am sure my efforts will be appreciated.

If someone wants to take over my leadership role, the effort and invest seed money (pun intended) for the Seed Exchange they will receive my support.

Yes, I will be happy to see what you got. Will be back in Dumaguete tomorrow or later tonight, depending on travel time. Have to fly into Cebu though, so we might have to spend the night at Eden.

 

Denpet, there was a trike strike yesterday, I do not know if it is continuing today or not, but I had to rescue a friend stranded at the docks yesterday. So you make research methods of getting home, if you do not have someone picking you up.

I am back on the board after long time.I would love to be part of a seed/seedling swap. Is it still on for March? There have been lots of things mentioned that I would like to try although my success with seeds so far has been somewhat limited. I have a few things that are different and happy to bring along if people may be interested? I grow two varieties of passion fruit that I make juice with and have either seeds or seedlings.I also have mulberry that I make pies or jam with.I can bring plant cuttings. I do well with ginger and galangal and have lots rooted and growing well. Chives, not so strong as the spring onions and also plenty of pandan, nice to put in with rice when cooking. I use vermi soil and vermi tea and sell that by the kilo or litre( or more that happy to swap rather than use money) and if anyone wants to order I can bring worms.

 

Dave...I have an interest in aquaponics not hydroponics (similar start ups), but that will be towards the future so I am not looking at anything right now. Seeds and plants I will hopefully be able to contribute towards your endeavor.

I think you are doing a cool thing trying to work a plant/seed exchange as I think there are many folks trying to work a garden, which includes me.
