I know this original post is from months ago, but I just read it and I wanted to share my thoughts. I agree we should not expect a security guard to defend us, which is why I advocate our Filipina wives/girlfriends get a License To Own & Possess Firearms (LTOPF) and a Permit To Carry (PTC) the firearm (or firearms).

In China a few months ago some crazy man pulled a knife on a bus and ALL of the passengers on the bus -- including many women -- immediately rushed towards the man and subdued him. I am a strong advocate of people defending other people.

If I am in a restaurant and someone starts shooting I will grab by girlfriend's .45 ACP (which is loaded with hollow point bullets) and neutralize the shooter. If my gf happens to have both of her .45 ACPs with her then we'll both be shooting. She's an excellent shot and one of the 45s is fitted with a laser sight so the odds are definitely in our favor.

My gf's uncle is a PNP Police Superintendent and we discussed this scenario months ago. He said it is lawful for me to employ my gf's weapon/weapons in a restaurant to neutralize an attacker -- even if the attacker, or attackers, are targeting someone else. I believe he is correct, but even if it was illegal I would still neutralize the attacker/attackers.

I understand the thing about the bean & burritos, but I will not sit back and watch someone being attacked. Then again, I am a (retired) military officer so it's my nature to take action. I do not know if any customers were armed in the McDonald's at the time of this shooting, but I can guarantee you the bad guys better not have the bad luck of trying this sh*t in a restaurant I am in!

 

I agree with GF/Partner/spouse getting LTOFP and PTC as long as they know how to use it properly as in your case. Also, as I understand the law you may use her gun anytime to protect her or your family anywhere/anytime they feel threatened or in fear of bodily harm/death but you are not allowed to carry the gun on yourself. Your Wife/GF/Partner with the permit must be the one carrying the weapon.

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO spokesperson Chief Inspector Dianne Catedral says De la Peña was raided on Tuesday at 23:00 clock in the district Mansilingan, by Garcia and his companion Brian Azucena.
Garcia directed a 38 caliber revolver at De la Pena and called for its wallet, La Pena disarmed Garcia and shot him with his revolver in his stomach. The companion of Garcia, fled with the mobile phone of De la Peña on a motorcycle.

It is a matter of using excessive force. Once you have taken the gun away from culprit and he has nothing to shoot you with you just can't turn the tables on him and shoot him! If it was the case that that the culprit got shot in a scuffle with the victim then that may be a different matter of self defense. Why not shoot him the leg or something why in the stomach?

 

Put yourself in Pena's place. You, someone apparently a worker with a god job ( otherwise you don't get a loan for Celine homes) walk on the street 11 oclock at night and the most wanted ruffian and his mate on a motorcycle put a gun in your face and demand your wallet. You , me and most people will p*ss themself and do as demanded. This guy however graps the gun and turns it on the robber.
I'm sure he did not aim nor cocked the gun. The gun must have been cocked and off safety ready to kill!! I'm pretty sure Mr Pena like nearly everyone is not used to weapens and just pulled the trigger with fatal result for the "poor" highway robber.
And Pena the hero? He must have been pretty shocked from the whole affair plus shooting someone !
The police who's work he did, arrest him for murder and slam him in jail at a moment when he is in dear need of emotional support !
In an other article I read that they even urged the Garcia clan the file charges!
