Anyone know a local source for bulk, dried garbanzos aka chick peas? I love hummis and related products made from garbanzos, like "chick pea soup" and it's a great healthy source of protein and healthy carbs and fats. I've been getting 12-15 lb in my annual BBB but it takes up a lot of room that my wife wants for "essentials". An acquaintance told me he used to find them (dried) "in the Dumaguete wet market in the same stall where they sell other dried beans" but we've checked many times and never found them. FYI, making hummis! After you find and soak the beans just buy bulk sesame at Yan Yan's (either local [black] or imported [white]) grind it up in a blender add the beans, garlic and spices, simmer in a slow cooker overnight and enjoy. John in Valencia (actually Liptong)
I do as well.....though I failed miserably the one time I tried to make it myself. I would be interested in knowing where to find them to give it another shot.
lee plaza and hypermart occasionally have 400g bags of garbanzos in the dried bean area. garbanzos where ''out of stock'' at hyper last week, i would assume the same at lp. they also occasionally have pinto and other foreign beans. norm : ))~
