Not to derail this whole thread but I think that policing myself would only be begging for corruption.

I am a quiet tenant. My Goal is to make them forget I am even here. The GF's mom and sister raise a bit of hell though.:banghead:

Is it the norm in the Philippines for the landowner to return the deposit and advance payment with interest as is done in the "west"?
The deposit is meant to be kept in a sort of escrow account, not generally available to the landowner.
Last time I got a deposit back (long time ago) I demanded the interest as well.

Where money is concerned do any of them Play by the rules? and if they did it would be THEIR rules they played bye.

Do we not say "Buyer Beware" and "Renter, kiss your down payment goodbye". many including, locals now kiss the deposit and use the 2 or three months up front as the last months rent equivalent. Owners don't like bank Accounts so your deposit and up Front rent is spent the same day you give to pay for things that have been left.

Very Few Land Lords will Honour your Entitlement? of a Return of Money and those that do have a waiting List as long as your Arm for Renters. so you move on and get the other sort. There are as most things, Good and Bad
Vicious world we live in when it comes to Landlords and Money! :pompus:

this is my fault, trying to expect 3rd world rules to be applied in a 3rd world country, Oh wait, that doesn't make sense. Must be an East and West thing then.
Or am I just too cynical! Just love getting older and being allowed to be grumpy.

Those rules aren't 3rd world rules, they just borrowed them from the 1st world. I have always been curious where the 2nd world is though. Never hear much about that one.

Wrye, I agree completely! Many of us moved from the US because of the pervasive and invasive Federal, State and Local governments, homeowners associations and a myriad of other like minded "busybodies". I would tell anyone here to "p*ss off' should they have the audacity to tell me how to run my life or my personal affairs!
