My passport expires in November. I was wondering how long it took to get a new US passport working with the people in Cebu. I also have a concern because BOI now seems to take 1 to 3 weeks to sign off on the pastport and get it back to us and the whole renew is only good for a little over 8 week, leaving just a 5 week window to get things done. . If the US passport renew took too much time I may not have a passport to get renewed here if I have two wait for the BOI to sign of on it. Comments and suggestion appreciated.

When at BOI the other day, there was a foreigner there who had his US passport renewed, but he need the old one for BOI to show all his past entrant dates and his extension stamps.

Dave, Can't say about the length of time for your US Passport but a UK (Non) member here had done his recently, he arranged with BOI to do a same day Sign off on Extensions for this reason, Go at 8am and pay then pick up at 2.30, they were very accommodating. it took 8 weeks for his new passport from the UK and was there fore an Over stayer, again Peter Bueno was kept informed and the resulting Penalty was. 200 Fine and 500 Reconsideration with No derogatory remarks on the Overstay. Say what we like about the BOI but if you are up front with them, they will accommodate you. i mentioned this to Peter last Week and he understands our need to go to 6 monthly Extensions as more and more of us will be in this Situation Sooner or later. His comment was not in the near Future, maybe after September deadline for ARP.

i recently renewed a usa passport:

    - i sent the old passport to the usa embassy in manila via air 21 in duma.
    - i forget why but the best payment option for us was for the little woman to go to the usa council in cebu city and give them the funds.
    - it was less than 2 weeks and i received both the old and new passports via air21. the old pp has holes punched in it and i got to stay at the farm : )

i need to take both my old and new pp's to the duma BOI to renew my visa until i exit and return to the fils and get a new entry stamp in my new pp.

    painless, well almost...

btw, the new pp tends to warp and stay that way if not stored flat.

I had this problem with my old one as well but that was due to some heavy abuse. The new one does tend to warp. I just store it under my laptop (which never moves) until I need it to keep it looking nice.

What ever photo you need for whatever agency here you can trust the people in the office will direct you to someone close by to do it... who will be related to them... and the most expensive in the area also. That is the way it works here. Where they is a peso to be made there is someone ready to compromise themselves to make it and another government agency to accept their apology for doing it..... for part of the profit... lol . It is easy in the Philippines once you understand the meaning of "fun in the Philippines".
