Several years ago my wife and I were looking to move to Dumaguete. When we returned this week for shopping we found that literally, everywhere you go, you smell sewage. From one end of town to the other. Every street. Every sidewalk. Walk out of any building and you are greeted by the smell of sewage. Driving down the street it is everywhere. We had to quit eating breakfast at Why Not because the stink was so bad. Even walking along the boulevard you could smell it in the waters.

I have been all throughout SEA and nowhere, not even Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Siagon or Jakarta smelled this bad. Nowhere in China did I experience this much sewage in the air.

I can only imagine the diseases it is causing. Smelling feces and urine can't be healthy.

Thank god we didn't buy there...

I have been in some pretty bad smelling places. Dumaguete was not even close to ranking up towards the top of my list. There are areas that don't smell to nice but in my opinion it is not nearly as bad as you are saying here.

I have worked and lived in most of the countrys you talk about in jakarta i had the over flow of many septic tanks running down a open gutter if front of my rented house. I have smelt urine here in places were drivers gather but never sewage. smells would be way down my list of what would improve dumaguete

Then you guys have been in town too long. You have gotten use to it. I live on the ocean in a low populated area 120 kilometers away. Fresh mountain and sea breeze all the time. I was going to say get out of town and cleanse your nose but if you are use to it.. maybe not a good idea. Believe me.. it stinks.. everywhere.

I think that is a bit of an over-exaggeration. Though I will admit that the downtown area isn't the greatest smelling place but it is no better in Bacolod, Cebu, Naga City, Ormoc, Batangas, Manila.......basically any urbanized place in the Philippines or most any other third world country.

Thread locked so no more sh*t gets thrown. Let's keep the forum smelling nice.

Maybe not sewerage smell but general drainage, it has been so dry over the last weeks with no real rain to speak of.
At a local cafe on sun am in valencia I did notice a pretty bad smell from the drains and there was a kid sat next to me who dropped some food, within a min a small rat popped out of a hole and grabbed the food.
I reckon a good dose of rain to flush out the canals will sort that out!
