I think any one who leaves a electrical device close to water is asking for trouble as we all should know they do not mix and agree that also as a visitor that person should be responsible for his own property

well, that is a tough one. Dog owners are responsible for the behavior of their pets, but why bring your phone to a pool?

Water damage. Stick it in a pile of rice. Absorbs all the moisture.

Same here in the States. Back in the day, the only people that had mobile phones were lawyers and doctors.

FREEDOM... is the personal strength to not be close to your phone, or to ignore an incoming call. (This personal characteristic freedom concept does not apply if you are with you GF, and another lady calls... not answering the phone in that case is consider personal WISDOM  and FEAR from harm's way.. :woot:). Sometimes is better to miss an afternoon snax that deal with a night full of sh*t thrown at you by your loved one. :wacky:

Well, I don't have a smartphone. I have a throw away. Pay as you go. But, I may have to break down and get one when I arrive to Dumguete.

I agree with the posters that said - no damage since the phone is working. Even if he was very polite about it (he wasn't) I wouldn't replace his phone or give him one centavo...

Story time - I have a waterproof Timex digital watch I use in the gym to time my rests between sets (bought it while in was in Afghanistan). Two weeks ago I had the battery replaced at a local shop. The shop failed to seal the watch when they replaced the battery. I went swimming with it and it literately filled with water - looked like an aquarium. Of course it went dead and I wrote it off as me being stupid to trust the local watch shop.

One week after the watch was filled with water - it came back to life. Timex takes a licking and keeps on ticking! I used it at the gym today and it worked perfectly.

    Point being - screw em!

The guy is responsible for looking after his property, so no - I would not replace his phone. I'd say he's just trying it on.
