TAGAYTAY City, April 13 (PIA) –Workers from the academe and technical training institutes to tourism industry stakeholders and other key sectors all agree that responding to the skills gap between graduates and jobs makes the Philippines even more competitive in the Asian integration. Philippine Business for Education (PBED) President Dr. Chito Salazar who cited schools churning thousands of graduates but could not land jobs, said workers and job vacancies can’t seem to find each other. At the culminating activity of PBED’s Higher Education Productivity Program (HEPP) the USAID presented the PBED’s after activity initiatives and best practices after 3 years of project from all the project sites as set up mechanisms to respond to the issue. PBED set up initial surveys on business industry needs and the competency skills of graduates in Batangas, Bohol, Cagayan de Oro, Ilo-ilo, Palawan, Pampanga and Zamboanga, according to USAID sources. Are there any Job vacancies to begin with or are they just Keeping Teachers & Lecturers in their jobs? To me it just seems the same old Story from another Angle. Did not the same thing happen in most of our own Countries, No work so stop the Training then after a few years, we have the jobs and no one trained to do them. Never ending Merry go Round. Chicken or Egg comes to mind. JP
