Globe, 3MBPS with Landline Phone free Globe to Globe - 1499 - On average 2.4-2.8 MBPS - Works for me, and I have 3 pcs streaming stuff constantly, and downloading, however I did get into a promo package hence the lower price and extras (free handset, installation and Speed) - plus its relatively new in this area and 90% of the neighbors dont have it..but in over a year to date, its only gone out once, which lasted only the day. Thats actually surprisingly better than internet I had in the States.. My bill has been the same for the last 13 months.

(Watch now that I post this itll go up next month)

I also have the "up to" 5Mbps with landline plan from Globe for 1599. But I'm on the old plan with a 10Gb per day data limit. If you sign up new or change plans you are subject to their new data caps. For the 5mbps it's 20Gb per month. Quite a difference. I was going to upgrade to the 15mbps but didn't want to hassle with monthly data caps. My post paid mobile data plan from them is 3Gb per month cap. If you exceed it's basically useless. But I can live with it on a phone.

I have no cap, its unlimited or my bill would cost more than it would to ocean drop a wire from here to the states for internet. Maybe I could get away with just a long string and use a tin can as the modem like they do in the movies.

Except that those numbers are complete BS. To get an accurate speed test in the Philippines it MUST be done to a server outside the Philippines. The Philippines isn't even a tiny fraction of the internet but realistically more like a huge network. The congestion is when your traffic actually hits the internet when it connects through the backbones that connect the internet to the Philippines. If you test inside the Philippines its really little difference then me testing the speed between my computers on my home network and but I can't claim that my internet speed is 100Mbps just because that's what my router could pull. To get an accurate test try testing through major hubs like Singapore, Kaula Lumpur, Los Angeles or San Fransico, or many other destinations with avoiding a few high congestion areas like Hong Kong. Your speed will be more accurate and you'll find often with Philippine internet providers your speed goes does majorly especially during peak hours. Further you'll see your lovely ping of 15ms go to 200ms for a *decent* Philippine connection and 400+ for a crap connection. If your ping is over 300 your hurting.... if its over 400 you are probably noticing regular connection drops or timeouts when opening web pages.

I have spent years trying to school and educate people on this including technicians but still all the Philippine internet providers keep pushing to only test in the Philippines because they can control the speed to their own server your connecting to and if they wanted they could give you 10Mbps, 25Mbps, or 100Mbps (of course some requiring proper line types). However soon as you exit the Philippines you see the speed way down drastically to its Real Speed.

So do yourselves a favor and check your Real Speed. Try it through a number of places outside the Philippines and see if your really getting what your paying for. Also remember a webpage these days can be opened fairly easy in a stable 128k connection and a stable 368k connection can seem very fast for webpages as well. Streaming HD though takes 2-3Mbps connection that is stable so if you can't do that.... well you know.

Even more ridiculous is doing the speed test to your own ISP's server. Not exactly real world. Consistent reliability, not speed, is the issue for me. That and these ridiculous data caps. They won't get to the 21st century in our lifetimes.

We have Globe in Eden and PLDT in Valencia.
Globe completely suck. There is no other option in Santander, or I would change immediately.
    1. Customer support is completely clueless. Calling them will never solve your problem. They have a set of standard questions that you have already checked before you call anyway (is power connected, what lights are on your modem....., "For a while sir"....."We will send a technician within 24 hours"
    2. So far they have never showed up within 24 hours. Two weeks ago we were down for 5 days until they had fixed it.

PLDT works much better. I would even say I'm satisfied with them. Have not had to call their tech support as often then, so I have no opinion about them. Only problem was during installation. It took longer before they showed up. Once connected I didn't get the static IP I was promised. I would have to upgrade to a business service to get static, which would cost more than double for the same speed. DynDNS helped me out there to get the VPN tunnel to Eden running.

Best service ever I used was Bayan Tel for the office on the boulevard. Only talked to them a few times over the years we used them. Very knowledgable. Got a personal local Dumaguete contact to call, Joelimar. He always answered promptly and understood the problem (the very few times we had any). Speed was persistent 4 down 1 up. It was expensive for the speed, but very much worth it (4000p / month).
I would switch both PLDT and for sure Globe with Bayan any day of the week if I had the option. But, they are only available in the city.
