:banghead: I Am not an insecure man by nature, maybe a moaner at times and as with many of us, the provider of much the majority of income into the house.
I am however having a few problems since we have got our Live in helper. A pleasant and reliable, upper 30+ and I have no bones to pick about the output of Work at all but I can't get Azon or my Daughter to understand that I am beginning to feel like a Stranger in my own Home. Being a Prisoner is one thing through the day (As I don't Drive anymore) and how many hours should I ride my bike daily? but both the help and my workers(Painter /Gardner etc) even any visitors through the day just talk among themselves and pay little attention to the Mr of the House. Then when Azon gets home it is all Blah Blah and then I have to ask for translations. I don't want it to get to a situation where decisions are made and I am not informed or consulted, I have heard of instances just like this.
This a little rant as It am getting pretty frustrated by it all, Like the French, they can Speak English good enough for the needs of the day but don't

Any Ideas, Advice for this normally Happy Chappie :frown: Anyone?

I understand what you are saying Jack, even my boy is speaking some visayan to the family here while they all congregate outside. I decided to tell my wife to holler to me periodically to see if I am still alive or need anything. Works for me, I can watch what I want on the TV and check the internet without being bothered.

I kinda like it when they speak don't speak English. I really prefer not to hear all the family drama2x anyways, I also get to be viewed as neutral in all conflicts. Most of my gf's family doesn't speak English so I can't really do much about it even if I wanted to. I do understand a bit of what they are talking about but if there was a language class out there I would take it to learn a bit more. There really isn't much out there for Bisaya though.

 You are still young and away working but your day will come and when it does you will think back on this thread and say OH! Yeah I remember now what was said. I am as you, not particularly interested in the Family/Friends Dramas this is about value of life for me. as I tell them (my immediate family) I did not work 50 years of my life, Re-Marry and build a house for their Future to be treated like a visitor, to be treated with disdain, I get that on the Street and from the Authorities I don't like it in my own home.:meh: When (well if) you Re Marry, have children and build a house that you will pay for, things will most definatley look and seem Different to you. Yes I know there are two sides to a coin, I just want one side to contain me, if even just a little.

I agree, but when I don't like something that is happening in my house I tell them to knock the sh*t off. Speak English or don't speak at all. You've said it before here, "hit 'em where it hurts" (money). If they don't speak English cut their allowance. They'll straighten up.
[DOUBLEPOST=1430202824,1430202759][/DOUBLEPOST]Or start a Bisaya Jar (like a swear jar), every time they speak Bisaya around you they have to put in 5 pesos.

Jack...it honestly does not bother me one bit when Cherry is talking with family or friends in Visayan. Like Wrye said, I am not interested in any of their perceived dramas; the wife tells me more than I want to know anyway. I've lived almost 1/2 my life overseas so I have developed the ability to block out foreign conversations pretty well. I'd like to learn Visayan but I am not great with languages; I could get around OK in Korea but I lived there for many years and took quite a number of classes.

1/2 the problem IS Azon in all the years I have known and been with her, she just cannot seem to realize, understand what being married to a Foreigner is all about. She will merrily go on talking her own Language until I get mad :rage: and then of course I'm Rude for asking that we speak English in the House but of course ( said with tongue in cheek) I promptly remind here that she is willing to spend the peso converted from English Pounds But not to converse in our home in English. Cake and eat it comes to mind! OH! I will win but I grow tired of the constant Battle. :banghead:

It's pretty much the same here when friends or family are here except for our kid who we have sort of adopted. She never spoke a word of English when she came to is us but now is more profound than the mrs!
When it's just us three English is the spoken word unless the mrs is in a bad temper then all hell breaks loose in the local dialect. The kid understands but will not speak it anymore and drives the mrs mad sometimes.
When she goes home to Cebu to see her family up in the hills none of the family speak English and the kid will not speak bisaya, quite interesting to watch
What I will also say is when a friend comes they never stop yapping,I'm surprised they don't get some sort of a oxygen starvation as they never seem to take a breath!
