Two items to be aware of on your permanent resident I-Card. They have to be renewed every 5 years, so check your expiration date. Secondly, you have to register at immigration annually so if you haven't and they catch it, you may have to pay a fine, so bring pesos. Good luck with your return.

If you enjoy reading pick up some used books in the towns you visit before Duma. Booksale store in malls have a nice selection. Go to S&R in Manila for some spices and canned goods not found here. Have a safe trip.

If you haven't done your annual report for three years there is about zero chance you will enter the country on that! Back to a tourist, they will let you get away with around one yr but that's about it.

yup, 7 11 moving in with a vengance.

I find there are a lot of decent western restos now . Good apartments can be found but being in the business, I have seen some huge price increases as Dumaguete is gaining in popularity. The ones we list range from 10k for very basic to 30k for luxury.

Personally I would be very careful about not having the "onward" ticket. i tried that and it was an exercise in futility trying to explain to the airline rep at the desk that I didn't need it. Ended up buying one for an inflated price at the last minute. Nearly missed the plane boarding. My luggage did miss the plane because of the delay and I had to stay in Manila for 2 days until they tracked it down.

The key to finding those prices is having boots on ground and then sending the wife/gf in to talk to the landlord. Though I've never ran across 5k for a house. Personally, I wouldn't expect to find anything less than 8-10k for a 3 bedroom house....and you'd have to be pretty dang lucky to find that. If you find one for 5k you better send the wife out to buy a lottery ticket right after.

The best I have found over the years, is 10,000 php pm for a 2 bed, fully furnished, nice house, ,no more than 10 years old, in a gated compound with a security guards on a shift roster.
