Does anyone know the state of the national highway to the south of Bacolod? I haven't driven it since last year when there were lots of roadworks.

How far south? Are you planning on going past Kabankalan or will you be turning to go up the mountain to Mabinay?

I'll be driving Dumaguete - Mabinay - Kabankalen - Bacolod - my wife has an appointment for a new passport and I'd like to confirm the drive time.

My gf went March 5 and she said there was no construction and the roads were good. But then she told me that it took 9 hours......which is a freaking ridiculous drive-time. I used to make it on my small Yamaha YBR 125 in 3 1/2 hours with construction. I've taken a bus before and it took around 6 hours. So, maybe someone else can give you some advice here.

Personally, I would go the day before and stay at cheap hotel. Easy to find a decent place for less than 1k Pesos in Bacolod.

    We ha
We have commitments the day before, so we're staying the next night in Bacolod. I certainly don't want to do the round trip in one day.

The GO Hotel is very close to the DFA Office, mall next door and is not expensive. However no food or drink service!

My gf stayed at the Go Hotel when she went to the DFA in Bacolod and said it was not pleasant at all. She said the rooms were dirty, overpriced and the TV and internet didn't work. I always stay at the Pleasant Travelers Pension House (link is a map). Half the price of Go Hotel and much cleaner with a Spanish feel to it.

We did the Duma to Bacolod and return trip two weeks ago. Over the range there are patches of road works, some are reasonable dirt/rock surface but there are a couple of bad stretches. The trip back to Duma took around 5 hours by car, with a cautious foreign driver not used to dirt road driving
