This was in my mail box. POSTED ON FACEBOOK People of Dumaguete, is it just me or are there in fact a lot of old white guys hooking up with underage and/or impoverished Filipinas around here? Man, i gotta say it's getting crazy ridiculous. They act like they own the town, carrying on their drunken arguments on the patios of restaurants along our seaside boulevard. They get the best seats on buses, boats and airplanes. They complain endlessly about what a shithole our country is. They are geriatric. They are rude to us. So let's get real for a moment. These guys are here living it up in our community on the pensions they earned as garbage truck drivers or postal clerks in the United States, Germany and England. Every time i come back here, I see so many more --- and it leads me to believe that they are an endless flow of flotsam and jetsam, washing up like so much trash on our beach. What do they contribute to our community? They talk about being rich, but they each spend the equivalent of maybe 700 to 1,000 U.S. dollars a month here. Mostly on booze and whores. Hardly lavish livers. This town awash in overseas workers remittances and the jobs created by new and huge local call service centers. Yeah, not the best gigs --- but at least a start. i gotta believe we can tell these "expats" to shove their money where the sun doesn't shine. Do we really need this sh*t? Me, I prefer young and adventurous backpackers. Nuff said.
I guess anonymouse asked all those old white guys if their gf's where of legal age, and check i.d.'s of course to backup his claims. And I'm wondering, at what 'magic age' does one transform from being an 'accepted' hipster backpacker to an unwanted old white guy? There are approx 5 million from this SE Asia area of the world working in countries where the 'white guy' is from. What would happen if those countries decided to say; "hey you foreigners are sh*t - go home."
Now that is something that I think may/should Keep Mr President awake at night thinking about. as I have said before, " Even a Snail will Turn" JP
Will Philippine remittances be a thing of the past? "....The 30-year-old is one of 10.5 million overseas Filipinos who send money home. Remittances are a crucial component of the Philippines economy, accounting for nearly 9.8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) according to World Bank estimates. The Philippines is the world's third-largest recipient of remittances. The latest figures from the Philippines Central Bank indicate that cash remittances rose 6 percent on year to $5.5 billion in the first quarter of this year...." Yes and where did it come from? Yes That's right, a Foreigners Country Somewhere, Time some sat and thought about this Fact. JP
So I've heard there are 50,000 iligals from the ph in the UK, they are not hounded like some are here. If they are caught they are treated with respect and even when imprisoned they are fed with comfortable beds and good food until deported. And again unlike the ph! The legal ones nearly have the same rights as any UK citizen have, they pay their stamp and taxes and they get treated with respect by the UK. In general the Filipinos who are there have a pretty good life albeit only a 2 year visa but can return if they wish. The ones I knew in my small town all lived in a rented house and shared the bills, they sent most of their money to their families back here. Maybe one day the ph will get the drift and respect us also like they do when they are in our country's.
- I'd heard that retiree visa options had been expanded in an effort to yield some BRAIN GAIN to the Philippines since all the brainy Filipinos are working abroad resulting in a national brain drain back at home... For my donation then to the supposed foreigner brain gain, I just today suggested a crowdfunding site on the Dgte Kasikas FB site for the poor 13yo girl from Bindoy who was a victim of an arson attack in Feb of last year where her Drs can submit a request for worldwide support . Evidently no Filipinos have done it yet or it would have been mentioned (I assume) nor has the author of that FB page lambasting foreigners? She is still suffering from her burns which will require lots of grafts/surgeries etc Free Online Fundraising & Crowdfunding Website - YouCaring .
I think this person seems rather bitter, either a troll or a Filipino woman who has been jilted by Westerner. There may be some truth in the post but it is stereotyping in the extreme. Many of us know how to behave.
