Another one bites the dust

TheDude is right on a LOT of fronts. The love to say how foreigners are pedophiles but most of the cases of them calling someone a pedophile aren't even. Girls have generally sexually matured around 15-16 years old and are sexually ready while emotional and thinking still lacks that comes from experience with the world. But even more so its very common in the Philippines among a number of other countries for men to have sex with 15-16 year old girls and we aren't talking about 17 year old boys as their partners. Most of the men are 1/2 there age older or more. In the Philippines the average age these days for a girl to lose her virginity is at the age of 16-17 where just 10 years ago it would have been 18-19. Now they love to point out foreigners who are having sex with these young girls which while I find it disgusting I find it also disgusting they completely ignore the fact most of these girls are having sex with Filipino men who are well above their age first and the police and law doesn't give a d*mn in those cases. But is there really a different between a 30 year old man having sex with 15 year old girls and a 65 year old man having sex with 15 year old girls? The difference is often the 65 year old is a foreigner and they act like its so much worse then if it was a 30 year old Filipino man. (Keep in mind the real disgust is the times when the adult uses a position of authority or power to get their way but in both cases that is still usually the case).

The even worse thing is most of these foreigners charged are let off very lightly as far as prison time and usually 200-300k peso's buys them their freedom and then they leave the country never to return.

I had a guy I knew here in the Philippines that when he arrived in Manila a decade ago or bit more was in a bar. A police officer approached him to chat and offered to bring a girl to the foreigners hotel for him. The foreigner agreed and the girl who showed up ended up being 15 and prostitute. The guy did his business and the officer showed up in the morning to pick up the girl and that was that. No setup or anything like that. Just a police officer with a side business of finding minor prostitutes for clientelle. I've also been down on the boulevard in the evening before walking and when I was sitting maybe 10 feet from where 2 officers had been standing and watching I had prostitutes walk right up and try and pick me up and not at all quiet about it.

But in the end I'd say the concern shouldn't be about old foreigners having sex with young girls and boys, it should be about that these young girls and boys are simply having sex. After all if she gets pregnant from some young chump think he is going to take care of things at all? The real crime isn't about age of consent or the difference of ages of those having sex, its about those who are to young having sex at all. Why is it fine in a society for a 15 year old girl to have sex with a 17, 22, 30 year old filipino guy but not alright if its a foreigner be them 25 or 65?

 

Additionally, there is the big problem of guys knocking up the girl then walking away. No child support responsibility. I say make the guy have to pay child support until the kid is 18.

 

OH! how I agree with you Pat but Admission of parentage would be an issue I think and of course this Admission Could /Should throw up the Underage sex thing.

He is a scummy creep for his actions. Not for his appearance. Gut feel from a photo? I guess for some.

Then we wonder why the Authorities are making it harder for people that have no stability : Marriages and Proper Homes, Commitment to the Philippines. To live here unheeded. Of course those of us that have the Commitment get drawn in Too. I still can't really understand how these Types are left Undetected for so long

Well the positive side is that the scumbags are finally getting caught. And punishment is severe - just don't send them to Oz as they are being a little bit "softish" in the moment. But public outcry will soon fix that situation.

I am happy to see, that there are plans in motion to stop this - on both sides of every ocean. The pedo's with records will find it harder to get here (subject to Pinoy doing it's share of the 2-way street).

I liked Jack's experience mentioned the other day, where the "terror of the household" supported him at her school by highlighting the fact (in class) that every visitor feels safe at her house, after the teacher commented on "foreigner danger".

It again highlights the fact of a total lack of education, a biased education, a totally inaccurate education, etc etc etc.

The more these issues are raised from the correct and accurate angles, the better for both the filipinos and the foreigners. For the better future of everyone involved.

(The better future for the pedo is being on the receiving end of the sharp stick / knife / scissors / etc).

 

This has been an interesting read for me and I would like to thank the contributors. I revolve in academic and clinical circles where child safety is a major focus. As I look back at my career, the kids that I have known to be in danger, the kids being exploited and yes indeed the grotty, murky underworld of organised sexual exploitation I have often wondered what type of person can live with their consciences when they either facilitate the abuse or abuse minors themselves. I must say that after nearly 30 years in this work, umpteen academic journal papers and books read and digested I am not sure. Modern neuroscience is highly suggestive that there is often a brain dysfunction....the empathy regions do not light up, combine that with poor impulse control and a moral centre that also does not light up under Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI) - and you have the makings of a sexual psychopath - your paedophile.

Debates range about what causes this. There is substantive evidence suggestive of early physical/sexual/emotional abuse 'closing down' development of these important brain functions. But I have also worked with victims of abuse who have not developed paedophilia. So I am just as uncertain as I was those 30 years ago. Curiously the gender ratios of abusers is roughly 6-1, so there is a substantial minority of female abusers that go un-noticed. As I write I am realising that the ratio of un-related Nero-developmental disorders eg ADHD/Autism/Tourette's/Dyslexia etc has a similar gender ratio. So I am wondering whether there is something developmental going on. I really don't know.

The one thing I am certain of however is that poverty creates the conditions for this type of exploitation to thrive. It is an easy Buck to make in the 3rd world and before I get on my high horse about the causes and cures of that I think I will leave things at that. The world does not need C's theory of everything! However, protection of both victims and abusers is in my view paramount. Yes, there are some sick bunnies out there, but they are still sick. We also need to protect our kids efficiently, effectively and safely from them.
