American singer Chris Brown has long since left the country, but his Canadian concert promoter John Michael Roda still faces deportation charge from the Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration (BI).

According to ABS-CBN News Online’s report today, July 26, Roda was arrested in Pasay City due to several immigration violations, including working without permit, defrauding creditors by absconding, and undesirability.

Declaring artists persona non grata, demanding apologies for obvious jokes, arresting promoters and preventing artists from leaving.....guess what country I don't go to if I'm an artist. Perhaps the church has a case against this promoter, that's fine, but there is no need to arrest him. The guy is a highly visible promoter (and Brown a well known artist), it's not like you won't be able to find them. Though if they did screw a well connected church out of a million bucks back in January I don't understand why they would come back 6 months later. I think there is far more too it than them skipping out on a concert.

The whole Cris Brown business is interesting. I have read dozens of different stories in a variety of papers. If you don't like one version of any story just read a different paper. Papers will quote him and actually change the wording or truncate the statement to give a different meaning. Poor reporting is neither here nor there on this story as I think there are some important facts missing from all the reports. From what I have gleaned and interpreted from the reports is:

    1) INC called DeLima and she issued a Lookout Bulletin without any supporting paperwork, meaning Brown at al need an ECC to leave them country
    2) NO Formal charges were filed with the courts so a Lookout Bulletin being issued was not appropriate.
    3) BI had to issue an ECC to Brown as there were no pending charges (paperwork for charges were still in the prosecutors office and no case was registered)
    4) the promoter was held for estafa and working without a work permit. The promoter is a Filipino/Canadian so he probably does not need a work permit.
none of the others in the Brown entourage were charged for no work permit, go figure. The DOJ still does not have a case filed so they probably are not entitled to hold the promoter.
    5) Brown said (more or less and not exactly) "I came here to do a makeup concert for the cancelled concert 3 days ago, what the F.... is going on?"

INC claims Brown owes the one million dollars because of their losses. The losses are questionable because they sold out the New Years concert and did not refund anyone according to reports. The refund issue is only glossed over by a few papers. It appears whatever the issue is a contractual/ civil issue but DeLima said she will elevate it to a criminal issue if necessary.

I've work on a few international jobs involving multiple suppliers from different countries and there is always a clause stating which countries laws will be applied and which country/city will hold proceeding to resolve disputes. I am guessing that Browns lawyers wrote the contract and disputes should be handled in America.

In a move of bravado DeLima said she will have an international warrant issued and have Brown extradited to the Philippines is required. Good luck on that one!
DeLima also said (more or less) "we never prevented Brown from leaving the country". That like being in "custodial interrogation" wearing handcuffs but you're not under arrest. It seems I for one am easily confused.
The DOJ could end up looking like fools as they either do not know or at least do not follow their own laws.

It looks like INC is trying to pull a fast one.

please note: sometimes I put 1 space after a period and other times 2, just trying to keep the Punctuation Nazis happy.

Not to sound rude and not pointed at any responders, but I could care less about Cris Brown or his promoter.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

I could care less about Brown myself (i couldn't even tell you one of his songs) but we should not let these things slide just because we don't like him.

The cult in question is very well connected and I don't trust them one bit...even less so than Brown. Most of the media reports I have read about this seem to focus more on his gold teeth and ghetto persona than what really happened.

And punctuation Nazis? The forum software changes two consecutive spaces to one by default. Nobody would have noticed.

I didn't really think this thread is really about Cris Brown it's was focused about the DOJ and INC..
If you don't think the DOJ affects you and you don't mind their questionable actions then that's okay.

I'm hoping someone will clip their wings before they effect me.
