Has anyone had any success of growing zucchini here as I'm not keen on paying p275 kg in robinsons for them? If so where do you buy seeds,
I can not say I have success but have some experience. Planted yesterday a zucchini seedling. This is my third attempt. By the first they grew well but weak in the stem and gave some fruits but then the surrounding tree roots spoiled the fun. Second time I put them in a raised bed protected from roots. They grew well and to support them I made a 8 inch high 30 inch diameter circular plastic wire mess as support around the stem. They did well but before fruiting I had to pull them up bsc I could not keep them irrigated due to lack of water. With the bunch I will plant now I will follow the last procedure. Seeds you can buy by J&B hardware , former Nicosa. Locsinstreet opposite the RCBC bank.
I have also tried 3 times i get them to are a good size plant and the leaves go like leather and they do not flower , the book says full sun but i have learned that full sun were phill, aust, usa, i have some young plants going well now under cover morning sun only, ill let you know, i have seeds here if you want some . Other that that i buy all my seeds from J.B Marketing (opp the rcbc bank Dr.V.Locsinst.) the are always in date good price.
I have also tried with seeds from the US with poor success. The plants grew well for a while and were beginning to flower and then wasted away. With squash plants you must watch for worms boring into the stem and eating them from the inside.....perhaps that is what got to mine.
