Have you ever noticed that you don't see beef cattle in this country. I understand that this is not Texas, but I am convinced that there are none, or very very few cattle ranches here.

So, where is this poor quality "beef" that we buy in Hypermart, Robinsons, etc coming from? ... Well, it's not imported (I asked the butcher). I am at the firm belief that this so-called "beef" they are selling is actually local Carabao!

I have noticed that when buying "beef" here, about the only stuff that is available is: various grades of ground beef or just pieces of meat that is cut up into either large or small chunks ..... I asked the guy if they had any Rib Eye or Porterhouse or T-Bone steaks for sale and he didn't even know what I was talking about.

Every "cow" has areas of the meat that would be used as the Rib-Eye or the Porterhouse or the T-Bone steak, but where does that meat go here in the PI? ... It's certainly not available in these local grocery stores here.

You can't even get a good steak at any of the resturants here, so, where do all the good cuts of meat go?

Again, I am convinced that this stuff we are buying here is nothing but Carabao .... It was the same problem when I lived in Bacolod City for 5 years.

BTW .... When I lived in Bacolod City, they had a large SM Mall there that also included a very large grocery store. They had some beef that they advertised as "imported from Australia" .... Well, other than the high price, it was no better than the local beef they sold ... If it was indeed imported from Australia, Australia was getting rid of there very poorest quality beef and putting it on a boat to the Philippines!

    RANT OVER .......:wtf:

If you look on the boards above the meat section at robs you will see a selection of cuts, they do have imported beef but it's frozen and you have to ask for it and thickness you want.
Have tried a few of the steaks and are sort of ok,nowt like back home though. Think the last one was around p650 and was ok on the bar b q
The biggest problem here is none of the meat is hung for 21 days,it's just killed and cut up into chunks.

That's probably the reason the "beef" here has a strange taste to it ... Of course, I still believe that this crap there selling is some sort of Carabao.

They should send a couple of there "butchers" to the US to visit a real beef processing facility and learn how it done correctly .... Make sure these couple of Filipino butchers take lots of paper and pencils so they can take lots of notes on how to properly age and cut beef. Then have them come back to the Philippines and teach everyone else how to do it .... seems simple to me.

I've seen a few cows like I see back in the US while going up to Casaroro Falls. They are around. It takes a lot of land to raise cows and most of the land good for that is used for crops that feed more people per acre. Cows are a very unsustainable animal to raise. It simply can't be done on a large scale in a country that is so densely populated.

And there's another problem, who is going to build a cold store for the meat with the price of electric so high here, the cost would be passed on to the consumer and especially down here there is no money for this.

There is a slaughterhouse out in the Palinpinion area. Cattle are trucked in from somewhere and killed and prepared. I know a local guy who is one of the head bangers. The guy whose job it is to tenderise the beef left years ago and was never replaced. lol

Well, I guess you just can't win

At least here you can get all the dried fish and rice you can gag down

I guess I shouldn't even care about any of this ... We are going back to the US (Florida) at the end of November.

And then it will be time to pull the car cover off my baby and drive it again! ....

I have no problems getting all the chicken, pork or vegetables I can gag down here either. If someone comes here expecting to have all the things they had in their home country, all while thinking they will be saving money making the move, they are almost certainly setting themselves up to be disappointed....and miserable. If you can't live without something it's probably best to check to see if it is available where you will be moving before you move there.

    Nice pony car though.
