A friend who lives on the beach in Bacong saw some Army trucks and soldiers watching the beach in Bacong. She asked what was going on and they told her the bad guys from Mindanao are targeting foreigners who live on the beach or own resorts. Same alert we heard last week. Ironically, right before my wife heard this she asked if her and her sister could take the kids to the beach (Bacong) then she checked her Facebook and saw her friends update from a little while ago. No beach until this is over.

Hmmmmm yes but when will it be over, never I would suspect. I can understand the Vigilance on the Beaches in the daytime but I would want to know if I had a property there what can be done to protect owners at night and all the resorts and such there. Of course these reports are against Foreigners so could we expect little or no help ? It is always worrying when these things come up and quite right we should take note and do what we must to protect our own but it can go deeper than just daytime vigilance by the Authorities. @PatO has the Mayor said anything about it at all ? One would presume he is in the know about things. I know it is not easy but Like you, I would worry at times like this. It is just not fair on anyone, especially the Kids.
Take care Pat and maybe you will keep us informed.

    Jack

There is nothing here leading me to believe that they are ignoring nighttime threats. Has it been mentioned somewhere that there are only patrols (by the Navy and Army) during daylight hours?

I don't know about the "little or no help" thing you either...I believe the Philippine Navy's gun ships and Philippine Army ground troops are them showing they are willing to fight to protect foreigners/tourists here.

As far as the mayor putting something out...why would he announce the exact measures being taken? And which mayor are you expecting to hear something from? It seems to be a threat that involves several municipalities/towns. They might have put something out to the residents of those towns already. They might not want to leak information to give away military tactics...or they might not even have such information.

These people sneak in and take advantage of those who make it easy to kidnap them. Keep your outdoor lights on, keep your dogs hungry and every 2 or 3 nights blow off a couple rounds out of your 45 towards Mindanao. Been working for me here on the Bacong Beach area for 8 years.... It costs nothing to pay attention!!!!!

I hope they have a night crew and keep the monitoring 24/7. Hanging up the rifle and taking off the boots at 5pm would of course leave an open window for the bad guys. My boy has his bow and arrows ready just in case.

OT: That would be illegal discharge of weapon. If you are a non-Filipino, Philippine gun laws prohibit expats on the possession of firearms. If local police gets a tip, and if immigration guys knows about this you're screwed. I know an expat french he is my friend who's been in that situation.

I just hope it will never happen in Negros. It takes a few minutes to be dragged away from somebodys house to thenkidnappers' speedboat.
