 OK so we have running costs on the Window type of Air con down to a fairly fine art for the Daughters bedroom but we are new to the Inverter Split level type. Master bed that I spent most of day at home in for the PC
Is it better to run the Unit for hours or turn it off when it is comfortable. We have played with the Temperature and fan Settings and now wonder which is best to do?
Bearing in Mind we are having the Sala done this week and just want to find the most cost effective way of Using Air con.

    Thank You for any Advice.

We have had both a split inverter as well as (now) a non-inverter split. I haven't seen much of a difference in cost. The inverter required lots of maintenance and kept breaking down. We ran them all night long in the bedroom. We found the only cost effective way is not to run it. You run it you pay, simple as that. My bedroom is pretty big and always cost at least 8,000p + monthly to run.

With central air it is better to keep it running all day (while turning the temperature up when not needed) because of the energy needed to cool the walls/floors/everything else down again is more than keeping it cool all day. I'm not so sure how that would work with a small window/split unit in the Philippines where houses have basically no insulation. My guess would be that it's better to just switch it off when you aren't using it.

Correction Jack, you are right. If we use the bedroom aircon the bill goes up 4,000-5,000p.

We have a 3.0 Hp standing aircon in our large open area that I can't afford to run. I get by with a standing fan.

Need to remember that a yearly deep cleaning of any air con unit is essential to maintain efficiency and keep running costs as low as possible.

I don't know how my electricity bill compares to others on this forum, but we are renting a new 2-story condo here in Dumaguete.

We have a 2.5 HP Sharp inverter split-AC unit which cools the main living room / kitchen area on the lower floor. It is set to 26 degrees and runs all the time except when we go to bed at night, or are out of the house for a fairly long period of time.

In the master bedroom upstairs we have a standard Panasonic window-style AC unit that only runs while we are in bed at night ... it's set to 25 degrees.

So, at any given time, either the spit unit downstairs is running, or the window style unit upstairs is running ... Anyway, in [most] cases, both units are not running at the same time.

Both of these AC units are less than 1 year old.

Our electric bill averages 4,300 pesos per month .... for what it's worth
