Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is running for president in 2016, his political adviser said Saturday.

"Yes," Lito Banayo, political adviser of Duterte, told GMA News Online when asked if the mayor will join the presidential race in 2016.

Banayo said that there was still no definite date when the mayor will formally announce his presidential run.

On Friday, Duterte told reporters in Davao City that he will wait for October 15 before declaring whether he would go for the presidency.

The filing of certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections office in Manila will run from October 12 to October

I might stick around for awhile after martial law is declared and the death squads are released just to see the look of regret on the local's faces.

There was also talk of Marcos being his running mate! Not sure that's a good idea. It makes you wonder how the big dynasty's would react if they thought there was a good chance of duterte getting in?
I hope he has some good body guards.

DAVAO CITY—Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was in a meeting on Wednesday with ranking military officials in Southern Mindanao when he got a call from communist party founder Jose Ma. Sison.

Duterte took the call and recalled telling Sison to give up the armed struggle and he would consider running for president.

According to Duterte, he was at dinner with the ranking military officials when his phone rang and Sison was on the other line.

Sison, according to Duterte, wanted to know what the mayor’s plans were for 2016 amid talk that he is definitely running for president.

    Duterte’s survey numbers are rising.

Duterte recalled the conversation with Sison, founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines that continues to wage a protracted war against the government.

Sison, according to Duterte, was inquiring if the mayor had plans to travel to Europe and that, if he did, to come visit the communist leader.

Duterte recalled telling Sison that he did not have plans, yet, of running for president.

“The presidency is not an easy job. You have the secessionists in the southern Philippines and you have the NPAs all over the country,” Duterte recalled telling Sison over the phone and in the presence of the generals.

Does anyone else find it odd that these two have each other on speed dial and seem to be pretty good friends? The only reason I can think of for the NPA to throw down their arms if Duterte runs for president was if they had some type of agreement. Duterte is starting to sound more and more like a traitor to the Philippine government.

That is not what the NPA wants. They are communists willing to kill for their political agenda. (I don't use that word "communism" in a negative way. Communism is a great concept...if we lived in a utopian society where we didn't have the unavoidable human elements of greed and power. The Philippines could never make that work.)
