    This whole thing has the feel of taking a video of an ordinary person doing something ordinary like eating at a restaurant and then doing a play by play commentary on it. Then following up that video with blogging and comments.

    I could take a video cam out on the town tonight and come up with much worse material from like a half dozen people. And that would just be from like the first dozen people I run into. This town would apparently be shocked! I don't know Dumaguete could deal with that. Globe might as well just ban Youtube.

    As the old joke goes, if assholes had wings, this place would be an airport.

    The difference is that those drunks/a-holes aren't recording their rants and putting it on YouTube. This Vandever guy is exercising his freedom of speech...unfortunately for him, with that comes repercussions (even more repercussions than he might find in the US). If you decide to have diarrhea of the mouth and put it on YouTube you should expect people to call you out on it.....or worse, like this Dennis guy did, start a blog about all the nasty crap you have done in your life (or possibly tick off the wrong local and then they use their connections to make your life very difficult). This guy has brought it on himself....just as a loud obnoxious drunk might find himself in a situation where he won't come out a winner in a bar. A-holes who don't understand that this is the third world and that things are dealt with here differently will probably not be welcome very long. On top of his very misguided words he has also allegedly broken some laws, not a good combination for him. The more known his actions/words/name become the more likely someone is going to step up and enforce some of those laws that he believes are never enforced. You can only tick off so many people in the Philippines before someone with some pull does something about you.

    I doubt anyone will come after him. At the end of the day, it's all about money and power. You screw with someone's cheese, then you might have problems. Otherwise, people can't be bothered. Money and power motivates, dealing with a foreigner flapping his jaws isn't worth getting out of bed for.

    Maybe the government gives this guy a problem renewing his visa, but that's about it.

    I checked out his website. He says he doesn't drink, so I may be wrong on that. I only mentioned drinking because he appeared like he may have had a couple and this is the sort of conversation you hear at bars all the time.

    He just seems like a normal dude with bad judgement for posting things online.

    I don't think he will have much problem with the diarrhea of the mouth (other than people calling him an idiot). Stealing images and selling them as your own does involve people losing money though. If the accusations of him stealing images (among other things) are true then his public comments stating that the Philippines courts are a joke and saying he would leave the country if anything actually came from his actions probably isn't doing him any favors.

    Also, if I were to create a website about myself (where I spoke in the third person) I would make myself look like a normal dude the best I could as well (but then I wouldn't be talking about myself in the third person in the first place). :wink: Also, for being a "Wordpress Guru" his SEO website really sucks and is full of grammatical and spelling errors. Wrye wouldn't let the guy touch any site Wrye was running. :wink: lol

    Local filipinos scorned this when it was posted on Facebook. He doesn't know literally the first thing about Silliman U., namely its founding. They point out that Santo Tomas is oldest university in Asia. Nor the first thing about SU students. Anyway, I question the premise that Dgte is especially popular among expats. Bacolod probably has many more, not to mention Cebu City.

    Bacolod doesn't have a very big expat community. I believe Cebu has more expats but Dumaguete has more per capita.
