Purely out of curiosity; how many parties are their in the Philippines? In the first article I see the Liberal Party and the Nationalist People's Coalition. Are these the only two parties being represented in Dumaguete? Also, what are the main political issues the parties debate on?
There are no political parties here comparable to what one is used to in the US or Western Europe (I leave a qualification whether that's good or bad out). Basic difference with the systems outside the Phils. is that you can switch allegiance to a party at the drop of a hat. Parties oftentimes solicit persons to run under their banner beacuse the are known celebs (for whatever that's worth) or made a name for themselves in positions elsewhere in Government circles (Defensor being one of them). The programs or ideology of the political parties here is as changeable as the weather, very much depending on what will attract the most votes. I dare to assume that no more than 5% of the population takes an interest in the political programs of the various parties (apart from the ones that have to make a living as a political commentator) as most people vote for a famous face or because he/she paid more that the other candidates or made better promises... Re-reading this response one cannot help wondering why so many other countries with a different political system are still governed by complete and utter elected morons...
Sorry but I smiled at this one, they can't prove one of the candidates is not a nuisance candidate. WTF happens if he gets Elected and turns out to be Just that. DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental Jack
Kinda sounds like the guy is a nuisance and is using a name he knows that will deliberately cause confusion for voters.
Whilst it is quite a small City by a lot of Standards 80+000 doesn't sound a lot of Voters to me. I would have thought more but this having Bio metrics kind of Throws things I guess. Is it not One man one vote? Seems Requirements rule here as with job applications and about everything else. DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental Jack
