I will be arriving in Dumaguete in about a month to look for a long-term rental. Is there a source of info about the different Barangays? I am particularly interested in crime rate, types of crime, average housing costs, poverty level. I realize that very little or none of this info is kept current, but thought I'd give it a shot. Just looking for a relative safe Barangay to begin my search without having to try every one of them. Any suggestions are appreciated. Will depend on local transportation, so that is also important in choosing. Thank you.
I'm not aware of any data like that. The only thing I would look to avoid would be the shanty areas. I wouldn't live within 5 blocks of those. Transportation shouldn't be much of an issue if you are within the city limits. When you find an honest trike driver get his phone number and give him a call when you need a ride.
Looc and Calindagan baragays have a high rate of drug problems, but as we know bad things can happen here anywhere.
BTW: Here is a map of all the different barangays. Based off of what I have seen driving around I would avoid living in parts of Calindagan (anything North of Robinsons or towards the ocean), Tabuc-tubig, Barangay 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8 (not much housing in that area anyway). I would also avoid living anywhere near the river that goes through Taclobo and Bagacay. Again, I have no real data on this but it seems that is where the majority of the slums and shabu dealers are located.
From the site: "There is no much data for Dumaguete."....I have no much confidence in that site. :D Numbeo also generates those ratings from it's user's "perception" of crime....not actual crime data. Perceptions are much like opinions.....and we all know what opinions are like.
Thanks. I imagine that like in the States, the further from city center, the better. This, at least, gives me much more info than I had. Thanks again.
