They aren't letting criminals hold government positions. There is nothing in the article suggesting they are planning on changing the law. People who have not been convicted of any crime should be given special treatment while in prison and allowed to take this test. Many of them could be there for a decade or more without ever being convicted of a crime given the speed of the court system here. I don't believe that people should be seen as guilty until proven innocent. Sure, many of them will be found guilty but there is nothing in the article saying they will be able, or even suggesting they may be able, to hold a government position after they serve their time....unless I messed that part of the article.
Yet when/If of one them turns sour You will be one of the First to say, well they should never have got the job in the First place. In this case then I see no point in allowing them to take the test as to me this is a prerequisite of an Appointment. As with many things a Pointless thing as is this particular discussion now, it's killed it for me.
Doubtful, I see no difference between an ex-convict and a career politician. I might actually have a little more trust for a convict that has served his time. But this is not about convicts getting jobs in government....this is about people who have never been charged with a serious crime getting jobs in government (in the eyes of the law they should have the exact same rights as anyone else who has never been convicted). Arrest does not equal conviction. Simple as that.
