Agreed Jack life is not fair. For those not aware, the Philippines is a Matriarchal society so the women usually win one way or another. They may let the men be the figureheads but the women pull all the strings behind the scenes. They are the real power here. Some visitors never learn this lesson. Just carefully watch family reunions and meetings if you are so lucky to be accepted by the family. The women usually prevail behind closed doors! But, they usually don't do it in public!
Ah OK yes, since he was connected to the Philippines and his employer was here so they had some leverage. Now if it had been a foreigner they would most likely just put a HOD if the guy or lady came back, which they most likely would not.
Goes to show you just need to money and motivation to have laws enforced here! Awesome story and good job sticking it to the deadbeat father!
I don't know how it works in other parts of the world but in the US a foreign child support order can be upheld. If you don't pay up they will not allow you to renew your passport and you could see your wages be taken out or some nasty stuff be put on your taxes/credit report.....possibly jail time as well.
The UK is the same, it is called an "Attachment of Earnings" Passport suspension follows on 2nd Default. (If you get Fired from a job & it is for a reason you created it is another Court Appearance. I don't know anyone personally that has done jail time but I read of some. When I was living in Spain, Quite a few absconders were brought back to the UK on European Warrants to face the Courts. If the Absconder was Here of course they wouldn't even try But a Blacklist at the Home Airport would give reason for arrest. Zap the Bar code and Gottcha. Jack.
In the US they can't suspend your passport, they can only stop you from renewing. You have to do something seriously screwed up to get your passport suspended in the US.
I meant they couldn't suspend it for being delinquent on your child support. They can suspend it for other, more serious, crimes.
So very Different to the UK. I Put a link for anyone Interested in this as the UK take Non Payment of Child Support very Seriously. Can a person’s passport be confiscated for non-payment of child support maintenance? Jack
I have known many to have this happen but the child was in the USA, never heard of it being a child in the PI. You can't take a Pinoys word and any court action here seriously. They will lie cheat and steal anything they can and that is why they are not part of the Hague convention
