nope. and neither have I been the personal victim of an Islamic terrorist, but that does not mean I will go around indiscriminately shooting every Muslim because of the minority that are the problem. That argument was used by my hillbilly neighbor who shot one of my dogs back home who had accidentally got out of the yard, just before I beat him to within an inch of his life. Did not fly with me then and does not fly with me now. If a dog is a danger, put him down in a humane way. A wholesale extermination on the streets by some trigger happy fools,,, hmm. Anybody that comes to my street taking potshots at anything, risking my family's life with a stray bullet will have a whole lot more to worry about than a rabid dog.

I cant speak for anyone else but I was speaking "tongue in cheek" about the stray problem :clown: and Jack is correct the Barangays have stray dog policies as does the Philippines (leash law). Enforcement is another issue altogether though. :banghead:

Well said. I think that even if you take in one dog it is a good thing. I cannot do that as I live in a small apartment. But if someone had the space I would certainly contribute. I know you cannot save all the strays but even if it is one life it is a good thing. I walk in the mornings and I always take table scrapes with me. At first the dogs would run away from me. Now, I get about 4 of them who will follow me. They are scruffy and I am sure they are suffering from skin diseases. But if you look in their eyes you can a kind and gentle soul. I don't care if you think I am soft. I just know I get pleasure giving a little love to these dogs.

When you speak tongue and cheek you are down playing the lives of these stray dogs. Filipinos tolerate these dogs. Maybe they think it is bad karma to kill them? Although they do kill in Baguio. They actually tie them up and beat them to death to tenderize the meat.

Also, most Filipinos are a few days away from dying. If they don't have money for medication and so on they are doomed. Maybe that fact makes it easy for stray dogs to live on the streets.

If I saw anyone kicking or abusing a stray dog I would intervene. I have done this before when a guy was kicking a dog and went into a hotel. I followed him into the hotel and called him out. Unfortunately most Indians in northern Canada treat their animals badly. A real man would not harm a stray dog!

I don't think you are soft per se, rather a caring individual. Good on you.

Not just in Baguio. Very common most of Luzon unfortunately even though it is technically illegal. I had a sick Bast@rd for a neighbor who used to do this and then use an acetylene torch to burn the hair off while the poor dog was still alive (said it tasted better). I complained to the Barangay Captain and Counselors to no avail. It wass deemed part of their "culture" to torture and kill dogs for snacks while having a drinking session. Personally I found this abhorrent behavior!

Don't let people hide behind culture, tradition or ethnicity. There are many good people in the Philippines. As President Obama said to the gathering of African leaders, some traditions do not belong in the 21st century. (He was discussing the treatment of girls and women.)

Does anyone have any opinions/comments on the main part of my post which was regarding the traffic havoc caused by the 2 and 3 wheel vehicle drivers ?

According to our culture and traditions. Some would say that Western culture and traditions have no place in the 21st century. What's right and wrong is very subjective. If you look at how nature works with pretty much everything except humans you will see that Western culture is pretty much the opposite of the natural way things were designed to work.
