    :facepalm: Whilst Nothing Surprises me here much any more, I had not realized there was a Typhoid Problem but then with Hygiene as it is and the water supply these things will happen + a bit about those Dogs.

    Unfortunately this happens when there is either no septic system for human waste or a defective septic system where human fecal matter leaks into ground water and the water is not boiled properly before consumption (like from well water etc). The young and old are the worst affected. City water is usually not affected unless there are defective water pipes or connections. Just to be safe I always use bottled water for most everything except Dishes, laundry and flushing toilets.

    Have you ever noticed that CRs here rarely have toilet paper or even a sanitary sprayer. You usually just find a bucket of water and a cup/small bowl nearby. There is only one of two possible outcomes I can think of with the buck-bowl combo being used as a means of cleaning up; a nasty butt or some nasty hands....and I'm almost certain it's not the one I'd prefer if I were to give a local a proper handshake. Let that soak in a bit and then try to remember if you saw any soap (that looks like it hasn't been sitting there since the Philippines gained its independence) in the sink of that cr.....and if you are feeling really brave, go to your favorite restaurant and find a seat that gives you a clear view of the cr and watch the hygiene practices of the people that are handling your food. If your favorite restaurant has some Western management involved with it just imagine how unsanitary a place fully operated at local standards could be. (I haven't been able to bring myself to do this last one. There are some things I'd rather just not know :cautious:.)

    If we went on Trip Advisor and complained about the sanitation in some of the restaurants, then they would spend some money on the CR.

    every septic tank I have seen in phls has no concrete bottom in it, so the waste soaks away into the ground water.......I would love to be corrected on this, as I have only seen a few being put in.....

    Maybe some do this to save money but I did not. Mine had a full concrete bottom and sides and one main pit with overflow pit next to it. like this

    I mistakenly complained to my landlord, the septic was backing up, or when it rained it would overflow!! Very distasteful, and unsanitary!! Smelled bad also! Anyway, they promptly sent the water people to empty the septic!! Turns out there was two septics, a big one and a small one! One for the toilet and cr sink, one for the kitchen sink! That one was the problem backing up into the kitchen sink!! So they built another septic right next to the faulty one!! Now there are three in the back yard and no room to do anything else!! Ha ha ha ha ha!! Not even a garden for my wife!!

    You should only need a septic for the toilet,which usually has 2 chambers. All other grey water usually runs into the gulleys along the street or into a soak away .

    No in Most cities in USA we have proper sewers. Here they use the equivalent of a Benjo ditch for grey water. :whistling:
